Usually the first week of BCT is nothing but in processing and receive all your shots & equipment.

Well the first week you get there its reception. Incredibly boring. The first week of BCT sucks too. The first three weeks of BCT is known as Red Phase. You're introduced into the order of things and your new routine. Shower drills, chow hall, bed making, marching, customs and courtesies. Your morale will be pretty low and the majority of people are thinking they made a huge mistake. It'll get better though, make sure to keep your head up and STAY AWAY FROM SICK CALL.

The first week you get there, it's Reception Battalion, which means they'll take your contraband, you'll get issued your uniforms, you'll spend a lot of time just waiting around, you'll talk with the liaison out there & it's probably as "relaxed" as you'll ever be during your time at the base where you're doing BCT at. [They'll check your vision, if you have glasses, you're getting a new pair of military issued ones, lately they're more civilian looking though, you'll see what I mean. They'll take x-rays of your teeth, you'll also get a mouth guard at this point in time. Oh, & they'll take blood too, that was fun.] After Reception is done [normally the day before they ship you out to your BCT unit they'll give you your shots], you'll get shipped out to your BCT unit & that day, they'll make you inventory all your gear, & then drag your duffel bags into whatever bay they decide to put you in. Or at least that's how the BCT unit I was with ran.

You're talking about reception, which is not a part of BCT.
It's the most boring place on Earth. You spend most of the day waiting in line to do one thing or another. You stand at parade rest a lot. The only medical stuff you'll do is the day of a thousand shots (it's really only nine). They'll also march you the the PX and make you buy all the stuff you brought with you.

No matter where you are from, odds are you will definitely get homesick. My boyfriend definitely uses the recording I got him since he got deployed. It's to decrease the mental anxiety of being 'there'. It's called Haven of Peace and it's from Independent Achievement. Good luck!.

It's about as thrilling as watching grass grow. It is a lot of paperwork and listening to long boring speeches. That's about it.
