Next week I'll be flying domestically. I understand the toiletry rule in carry-ons. But what about check-in? I don't want to pack a $12 bottle of shampoo and have it chucked or any of my toiletries for that matter.
What have been some of your experiences?

You can pack pretty much anything you want in your checked luggage as long as its not hazardous material. Now, if you are concerned about a bottle of shampoo or lotion or perfume getting broken when the luggage is thrown around (and it will be from belt to belt to plane and back to you), here's what I do (generally for something like a bottle of wine too). First put the bottle in a zip lock bag and make sure that its sealed. Then wrap the item in a towel, T-shirts, or other article of clothing (I usually put my bottle of wine in a gym sock). But make sure that the bottle is wrapped in something so that it does not bump against another bottle or hard article. Then the key is to put the wrapped item close to the most firm part of your bag. If you are using soft sided luggage, pack the item in the middle of your clothes so that they provide more cushion; i.e. clothes above and below the item(s). This has worked fine for me many times.

my college aged kids fly all the time both domestically and internationally - here is how it is - as long as it is in your suitcase and checked in, you can carry the bottles. Just not on carry-on. Be sure to put the shampoo or any other liquid bottles in sealed baggies, just in case they leak. the last thing you want to do is have to launder the shampoo out of your clothes the minute you arrive! Have a safe trip!

I have never had a problem with toiletries in my check in bag but if you want to be 100% sure call the airline and ask them. For the most part, the employees are very helpful and will give you the answer your looking for.

Your toiletries will be fine if packed in checked luggage. Just put them into a zip lock bag (that way they won't mess up your clothes).

as far as i know- as long as it's packed in your suitcase, it won't be a problem.

don't forget-can't bring in any liquids like cans of soda or water- that will get chucked.

pack it up tightly in your suitcase and all will be well.
and i just flew recently a couple of weeks ago.

Just put your stuff in your suitcase and check it through.

Not a big deal.
