Seen a documentry Dispatches on Channel 4 Monday. (so many with Digital TV will still be able to see it.
it pointed out that whilst we all know kids swallow small items and poop them out... Strong magnets if more then one are swallowed which feature in many curretn toys in marticualr Magnetix...
Will attract to join up and punch straight through the intestinal wall doing similar damage to a gunshot wound yet are currently legal in uk shops.

Please post your counter evidence if true... this documentry came up on monday... when did the Mythbusters show come out?
Also the graphic photo of the kids guts with the megets stuck together and xrays in the documentry looked pretty conclusive...
But would be interested to see your evidence and the program

Chris...
Most people are aware of young kids swallowing thing.
But most people would assume that a couple of bagetic balls or discs would do no real damgae and go through the system and get pooped out.
problem is these dont go throught the system... the powerful magnets attract and we are talking pretty strong ones to lock tight together or pull together from a distance cuasing effects like a shot from a pistol

What was also happening is these were not just little kids ... example magnetic jewllery... the older ones just felt stupid and did not want to look a fool for accidently swallowing the items thinking they would popp out not attract to each other and punch holes through the guts...
the words hurt like a ***** comes to mind

Checking the mythbusters website I failed to find any references to your busted test.
Please point out the episode you saw it on or what else they busted on it which could help find the report.
i have also contacted the show and awaiting a reply

I saw the documentary too - quite shocking! It would never have occurred to me that Magnetix could be so dangerous! You just assume that toys have been tested to ensure their safety. Needless to say, I went straight upstairs to remove them from my child's room and put them in the bin!

This is an question/answer forum, not a notification board. You would do well to post your concerns on pregnancy boards where they stay up and can be seen. You can get the same problem if the kid pulled the magnets off your refrigerator, tore and swallowed them. There was a case of that just this summer.
No need to beat others up about it though. It's not something most people would ever have thought of as a hazard. Obviously. I took my Magnetic Poetry pieces off the frig when this alert first came out for the safety of a visiting 2 year old. Just wasn't worth taking the chance.

Thing is right and before l get blasted this is my opinion. I have 5 kids ,l come from a family of five kids A LOT OF TOYS!I think all this has gone a bit to far, anyone of my kids toys could potentially be a killer if used in the wrong way. Age limits are put on these toys and whilst l did see that some of the kids who died were a lot older than 3 or 4 l do not see how the manufacturer can be held responsible for what are accidents.I remember a couple of kids choking to death from kinder egg toys but no one stopped making them. Accidents will always happen. We don't ban cars when their is an accident,The nanny state is going to far.My opinion and l am entitled to it.Whats next get rid of kids bikes and roller skates, yo yos incase they wrap it round their neck?

It's very true that the magnets can cause death, it's a shame that some people don't believe it. I'm surprised that Magnetix is still around in stores, but apparently the recall was a "voluntary" one, meaning that ti's up to stores as to whether or not they want to take them off the shelves. (My husband works p/t at Kmart, they have them there, and that's what my husband told me.)

I seen something on the news last year I believe abouta stupid woman giveing her very young child a toy that was basically all magnets. they had magent balls that joined stuff together or something IDK (is that meagnetix?) anyways she was suing the company for a dangerous toy that either killed her son or seriously hurt him.
I am thinking YOU FREAKING RETARD you gave a child under three a toy CLEARLY marked for ages 10+ that is chock full of tiny pieces of course he god damn swallowed them. Morons. I bet she wasn't sitting around playing and supervising him either. Seems the sort.
I do not think these toys are dangerous if they are used properly adn given to the proper age group, but then you have retarded woman having children and plopping them down with toys that are obvious to a sane person not meant for that age group.
As for magnetic jewlery I have heard of nose studs but never a tongue stud magnet, and if they did happen to snort the nose stud backing how is that dangerous? It is ONE magnet, there needs to be TWO or more in the digestive tract to attach to eachother.

Don't all these items carry warnings that they are not suitable for small children and that adult supervision is recommended? One of the reasons for the UK becoming such a nanny state is that people would rather get things banned than actually do some work as a parent and actually supervise their children. Bloody do gooders have enough ammunition to make the country like a bloody nursery school as it is. Why don't people grow up and take on some responsibility for their own actions and those of their children?

The only way this could happen is if the magnet hit your child doing around 1000 feet a second. ie gunshot speed.
