The very first thing you will experience is that the world you were living in has just ended (and that's before you get off the bus)!
Second, you will find yourself standing on a yellow footprint with eyes forward, mouth shut and at attention.
Next you will enter a room, strip down, get a new set of clothing and ship your civilian clothes back home, cause you won't need them for a long long time.

You are processed for a few days, you get inspected, injected, neglected, go bald in an instant and lucky to get to take a 15 minute nap.

Now after all that, just when you think you got the hang of things, your world will change once again.
YOU MEET YOUR DRILL INSTRUCTORS!!!!!

Other than that, it's going to make you a man and one who fears no one.

Good luck and thank you for your service.

First, find and talk with a Marine who has been there. Bootcamp will be hell, but when you get through it all you will have a personal pride of knowing you can take most anything ! You will be in the best physical shape you have ever been in, mentally you will have put up with the most verbal abuse you could ever expect.
Just some quick humor, My good friend was in basic, bootcamp, he called his rifle a " gun". The drill sargent made him march around the camp with the rifle and was made to yell " this is my rifle , this is my gun, this is for fighting , this is for fun " He had to do that for about a half hour, but he got the idea.
You will also hear about " Jody " , jody is home with your girl, jody is taking your place, jody has got it " in " for you, jody, jody.

Expect to run a lot and do a lot of pushups and situps and cleaning EVERYTHING.

And expect a lot of yelling at you by the DIs.

Also expect that whatever you do--it will be wrong.

You will be forced to learn a lot--everything from basic First AID, weapons, tactics, equipment. to UCMJ standards.

For God's sakes--Don't fall asleep during training classes--YOU'LL BE SORRY!

Don't do anything that singles you out of the crowd until you know the consequences.

Lastly remember--it's a mind game--the DI are people who have a job to do---that will hopefully save your life and the lives of those around you. Basic and BOOTCAMP have proven to be the best way to get the learning across.

Keep a positive attitude and remember---each day you spend there--is one less day you have to spend THERE!
Towards the end you'll "enjoy" it a lot better---but that first month is HELL.

I don't know who said this--but it's important for soldiers and marines. "THE MORE YOU SWEAT IN TRAINING, THE LESS YOU BLEED IN WAR."

The first half of your basic training they will be breaking down your civilian attitudes & generally getting rid of the wimps, moma boys and any one else who can't adjust - second half they will be building you back up as a Marine.

a lot of physical training and endurance exercises. training in military customs and courtesies, weapons, warfare, first aid. they will require you to work to their standard and expect leadership and teamwork.

It will be hard at times, you will be tired, sometimes mad at the Drill instructors, sometimes you will be sleepy, sometimes exhilirated, but in the end yoiu will be a beter person.

more disciplined, better self esteem and pride.

In the end it will be as good or as bad as you make it and in hindsight you will be glad you did it.

good luck to you and you'll do fine

And when they ship you off to Iraq remember to keep your head down. If any IED's get blown up around you its OK to curse Sec of Def Donald Rumsfeld cuz it was his idiotic decision not to guard Saddam's Ammo depots. So the guy next to you that'll get his foot blown off, it will surely be by some of that unguarded ordnance!!
Oh, and when you step off the transport plane, hold your breath cuz you're gonna be inhaling tons of microscopic Depleted Uranium particulates (the Agent Orange of this war). The recruiter did tell you about that didn't he??

Also make friends with Mitt Romney's five sons cuz when you get outta their you're gonna need a job, Oh Wait!, not a one of his five strapping boys is serving, ooops my bad!

Most important, remember to maintain your humanity.
