You did say fighter, no? That would be a Mig 31 at mach 2.8. There are other faster jets, but thy aren't fighters................................
I think the actual fastest award goes to th SR-71 blackbird at Mach 3.3. I would say the new Aurora Project would be the at Mach +7. There has yet to be a manned Aurora though (that we know of).

There are faster aircraft and jets, but the fastest fighter would be the MiG-25 Foxbat.

YF-12A at mach 3 plus. #1 but a flight test only ship never to achieve operational status.
Operational MIG-25 clocked at Mach 3.3 over Isreal in 1973 war. She sucked both turmansky engines doing it though.
I only answer for F/P designated aircraft not X(experimental) or SR (think 71 a recon bird).

people i thought he wants to know fighter. SR-71 aint a fighter. F-22 is the fastest. altho the top speed is a secret.. u noe its fast

Supposedly it is the American SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. Even though this plane is no longer in service it is still on the record books. I'm not sure of the top speed, but it did fly coast to coast in about an hour! I'm sure there is something out there a little faster kept hush hush
