He doesn't. People use him as an excuse.

Jesus died at the cross do we could be resolved sin. Satan wasn't defeated, but through acceptance of Jesus we could defeat Satan. Thats the Biblical view. Personally I don't believe in Satan, mankind is the only evil. Only by us accepting love into our lives can we hope to make this a better world. Somebody else is not going to do it for us.

Because Satan has his flock too, just like Jesus Christ has a flock.
The god of this age is Satan.
The God of this current world is Satan.
But this world is going fast.
Turn to god and believe the Good News of Jesus Christ.
If you do, you will pass from judgment and receive eternal life.
By faith alone and not any works.
For by works no man will be justified.
ps. Satan lost the war, but he's like a suicide bomber who's goal is hurt as many people as possible.

The reason the Son of God came was to destory the work of the devil.
The power of the devil which is the sin in our lives which brings punishment of the eternal fire is the work that the Son of God (Jesus Christ) destroyed for those who believe in the Messiah to save them from it.
The one born of God keeps him safe and the evil one cannot harm him.
When first believing in Christ, we are born again by the Holy Spirit. We are saved, and the devil cannot take away our salvation.
The devil is full of fury because he knows his time is short.
The dragon went to make war with the saints--those who obey the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
The devil is always after the saints (believers) of God. He is angry at them, much like a sore loser is angry when he is defeated in a game of sports like basketball.
And we know the whole world is under the control of the evil one.
The evil one also known as the devil or the prince of this world has power for a short while here one earth. When Christ Jesus comes back, his power will be destroyed. The devil including his angels or demons will be thrown into the lake of fire or hell.

If Satan has so much power, why are republicans and democrats in charge of the most powerful nation on the planet?
If THAT is a representation of Satan's manipulating the system, he's nothing but a clown act.

Technically speaking... he is defeated on the cross. But he still reigns on the earth until he is permanently eliminated from the Earth to Hell. For this time he has to campaign for his army against God... God did not take his power yet... God has only cautioned people not to be Satan's slaves... and God gave the example of Christ His only son... So that we may believe in HIM and have Everlasting life.

Um...
There is no Satan...or God...or Santa...or Paul Bunyan (Bun "yon"? or Bun "yan?")...I forgot...where was I...? Oh, yeah...why does Satan still have so much power to process people...?
Ah! I'm back on top again of things again...yes...so...to answer your question...
He doesn't have any power to process people...or even gerbils...or even amoeba...because...
He doesn't exist...he's a myth...a fable...a legend blown out of proportion...a...ex-girlfriend, perhaps even...but I digress again, that beach...damn her...okay...where was I? Oh, yeah...
It's all a lot of "Hoo Haw In Da' Hinkey Me Thinkey!"

Because some people still choose to follow him. God doesn't mean that we will never sin again after Jesus died. He meant that we can have our sins forgiven, and if everyone does that, Satan will have hell all to himself.

Did you mean 'Possess' people?
Satan has never been truly defeated. If he had, there'd be no reason for religions. You cannot have the good without the bad.
