Ok firstly, 90% of fleas come from cats-it's the cat flea on your dog.
apply 'frontline' or 'spot on' liquid applicator between the shoulder blades of your dog, direct to the skin every 12 weeks, after 72 hours the problem should be gone.-frontline or spot on breaks the flea life cycle. It will work, vacuuming or washing or 'flea sprays' don't work.

Stop panicking!!! Actually it's not very likely that he'd transfer the fleas to your Mum's! If it was that easy I'd be spreading them all over the town I live in, and even in the middle of summer I don't! Neither do any of my co-workers!!
I'm a care-worker and a lot of the people I go into have dog's and cats and you do get the occassional bite but that's all. I'm in and out of dozens of homes daily! These people are elderly or disabled and often the houses are not as clean as they could be! Cleaners cost money they simply don't have.
It's been very cold here this last week or two (as you mention £'s you must be in the UK) and unless you heat the house 24 hours a day I don't think you'd even have a live adult flea, particularly if you have been spraying the carpets etc regularly. I haven't seen a flea or been bitten since the beginning of November and have a dog and two cats (one goes out all day) myself!
There are other things that could have bitten you or caused the itch including spiders which aren't killed by flea sprays! A flea bite usually leaves a small spot that you would have seen or felt on your neck, so I wouldn't be too hasty to blame the fleas! I wouldn't be too quick to blame the house either, old houses are less likely to have fleas than a modern one unless they have full central heating!

Gah, sounds like you have a real problem! One thing I can answer is about how you're getting the flea bites - if fleas are there, a polo neck won't stop them I'm afraid, they can get under your clothes. Not convinced they can't bite THROUGH clothes actually, since I get them on my torso when I'm at work - at just about table height, see. Ick.
I would suggest changing to a different flea treatment for both the animals and the house. Although it was likely to be me that suggested Frontline Plus in the first place, it's not unheard of for fleas to build up immunity to products, so the first thing to do is switch to Advantage or Revolution, or preferably Advocate since that's the only other one that kills flea larvae besides Frontline Plus. Also try a different spray for your house, what one are you using?
I wouldn't worry too much about clothing - washing it should be fine. Shaking them wouldn't do anything, but washing would. It's the animals and the house you have to focus on, that's where the fleas are living and breeding.

Cedar and garlic are both suppose to be flea repellants. Don't know if they work but you could get some of that cedar closet stuff and put in the suitcase.
Be very careful not to mix products that are incompatible or you might be bringing something worse than fleas - like severe allergic reactions to chemicals. Could even kill your dog if not careful. Ask the vet, or the toll free number for Frontline, before introducing a new product to make sure it's safe with the Frontline.
And there is the possibility (only because I had a brother who was so allergic to fleas that he felt them everywhere) that the bite has nothing to do with a flea. Spiders, for example, literally are everywhere and are not killed by flea stuff.

My best suggestion is to wash your bf clothes as soon as he arrives at your Mom's. Take his suitcase right to the washing machine and empty it out, then take it outside and shake it violently, maybe even vacuum it out.
Fleas are such a pain in the butt! But, I just read yesterday on Yahoo that a new study has found that running the vacuum kills fleas as well as insecticides. (Who does a study like that anyway? lol) That was encouraging to me. I'm including the link to the story.
I'd offer to run the sweeper every day for your Mom....don't even tell her why if you don't want to. Just tell her the house looks so nice and spiffy and you want to be sure it stays that way. When you go home run your sweeper and get some spot-on type flea stuff for your animals...or some kind of "meds" to get rid of the fleas.
Yes, fleas are a pain in the butt, but we will win the battle!!!

Sounds like you are blaming your b/f for the fleas. the August part is confusing me,as where i live it,s December. So i can only assume this problem,actually started in August. I can,t work out if you were having problems before,you went away!At this time i am not clear on the issue; But i will be visiting a local flea market on Sunday,and promise to enquire amongst the flea experts on site. Regards;

I have had many dogs and cats over the past 20 years and I have fed each one every day Brewers Yeast and Garlic tablets. One tablets for each 10 pounds of the animal. I have never had fleas, ticks or hot spots since. Someone told me this years ago and believe me it works better than Frontline or similar. There are no side effects to this

really the only way to kill ALL the fleas is to buy a timed-release spray.
use it, when the ten days are up (the life cycle of the flea) do it again.
fleas don't go away easy... and while a dog or cat flea CANNOT live off a human, they WILL bite you, and if you are allergic, it can be bad news. (if you aren't its still ANNOYING)
see your vet about a timed-release spray... bombs dont work, regular sprays are just poison... see your vet.

why dont you treat your house with flea stuff that you can buy from any pet shop, and kill them from source eg - your house. I would not worry about them coming to your mums.
