a recovery run. Nothing hard, just something you know that will keep you from getting out of shape. I'm a distance runner and our coach makes us go easy 40-45 mins the next day. Also some strides to keep you nice and loose. Make sure you stretch out first so you don't pull anything.
as for the eating part, get carbs and protein. They will help your muscle recover and and feel refreshed in no time.
Hope this helped ! :)

I'd suggest not running at all if you're fairly tired. Try cross-training instead, go for something like a swim or a bike ride instead of running. This depends how intense you ran the race though, if you still have energy left in you, you can go for a light jog but go slowly. As for eating, just stick to healthy food and all, and eat how you usually eat. Then, two days after the race, you can go back to running and you should feel more refreshed.

It is good to take off one day each week, and if this is your day off then don't run. Otherwise you can run very easy for a couple of miles to get loose.
Be sure to do your stretching routine.
Eat some protein to help your body recover from the stress of the meet.

my xc coaches always have us do a long recovery run the day after...i usually dont do this for track tho, i just do a light run then stretch to keep my muscles loose...since it seems like your a middle distance guy i would recommend doing a light 20 min run nothing more and take it easy.

Run, but run easy. It will help get the crud out of your legs. It always helps me after the day of a race if I run.

Be careful, now's the time you're most vulnerable for a muscle pull.
