yes it does work but it takes some time. we home school and use it for our kids and it teaches you phrases first. If your trip is coming up soon I would say you would be better off reading from a phrase book instead of rosetta.

I've used Rosetta Stone for german, and it's okay. It's not really the best thinig as people say it is.

Rosetta Stone is good for PRACTICING what you know already. It doesn't tell you grammer rules, or WHY something is like this, or why it's suppose to be like this and not that.

xD

The whole point of rosetta stone is to sort of immerse yourself in the language. So, all you hear is THAT language, and you're suppose to "pick it up faster".

I think, you should get an italian grammer book that explains the italian language, and use what you know when using rosetta stone. FOR EXAMPLE: italian (like many romance languages) have genders for each noun. But rosetta stone won't tell you that. They'll just give you the word with the gender along with it.

=)

Ermmmmmmmmmm...............yup. Rosetta stone teaches words like, "mom, girl, boy," and telling time. and saying things like, "the boy is jumping. the girl is running." and.. they go over food, shapes, colors...etc.

You probably won't learn things like, "can I help you?" "I would like......"

it is very, very good

you look at photos and interact with the program by clicking on images; of course, you have to prounce the words if you want to perfect your pronounciation

I would suggest also getting a native speaker to give you lessons once a week or so

you can speak sentences right away, but of course they will be short, silly ones like "I am in the house, He is in the house, We are in the house" etc.

before you spend $$, first check your public library, because they may have the interactive data base on line to use for free, that is how I began with Rosetta Stone

It obviously teaches you how to read. To write, no. I don't think it's that hard to write other languages unless it's like Chinese or some Asian language.
