The best thing to do is re-use it. I save glass spaghetti jars with lids -washed and dried especially for storing cooking oil. After the oil has cooled, strain the particles by pouring the oil through Handi-Wipe kitchen towels into a jar. I refrigerate the oil until further use because it's impossible to get every speck out and it may go rancid. After several uses, I pour into a jar and put in the trash.

You are allowed to pour it down the drain but it's not smart--the oil will get stuck in there and go rancid. I just keep it in my cellar until I'm ready to dispose of it and then I throw it out. Probably not the best thing to do, though...

Don't pour it down the drain! I pour it into a milk container or the oil jug in the garbage. I've been known to throw out a little milk to acquire the right container!

Save your plastic containers for cottage cheese and pour the oil into those, secure lid with heavy tape and dispose of in your trash bag.
Oil is very bad for the plumbing and municipal drains because it leads to clogs.

Get an old coffee can or something with a lid and put it in there. When it is cool of course. Then when it hardens throw it in the garbage. Don't put it down the drain - it could very easily clog the thing up.

If you're talking about a small amount then put it in a used can and wait for it to solidify. Once it's cooled and safe, throw it out with your trash. If you're talking about a substantial amount (like a restaurant) then advertise your oil and someone looking for it to use it as fuel will take it off your hands

When I still had my restaurant, a company would come out and suck the used oil out of the bin and take it to their plant to be recycled. It was used to make anything petroleum based. At home, I just put it in a coffee can with a lid and toss it in the garbage (not recycling bin).
