without going to an oncologist or a GP to get real answers. The people on Yahoo Answers do not know medicine. They can speak from personal experience or what they think, but they cannot know with out a medical degree and all sorts of tests. I am alive after almost 8 years in remission because I saw an oncologist and did not listen to people that said the bump on my back was nothing.

Don't ask here the answer is usually you don't have cancer. But if you do why limit your life by waiting for a certain death without getting tested and talking to experts?

I can answer this question ...speaking as someone who has survived Cancer three times and has been in remission for eight years now..I believe that people should go to their doctor for a referral to the specialist..a Oncologist to find out if they indeed have Cancer..this is not a thing to play around with..and others here are not doctors and should not be giving advise unless they know from whence they speak..You are right William on this one...go to the doctor for the real answer to weather you have Cancer or not..then if you have questions on treatment..explore options with your doctor and on line in the specific kind of Cancer you have and options on medication..there are sites that spacifically deal with that information, after exploring these options explain what you saw with your doctor and ask if these options are for you..he will tell you if they are feasiable for you..now if you are experiencing mood and drug side effects..you might ask if anyone else has gone Thur the things you are curently going Thru..and get an answer (you must also be real careful about others answers)..but for the disease it self you must get a professional opinion or two..the people on here may have had or are having to go Thur Cancer treatments..but they are not the ones who know most about Cancer..only an Oncologist does..they may have had experience with treatments and can offer up some more comfortable ways to proceed but they are not professionals..and I would not take advice readily from them with out first talking to my Oncologist...as I have said before advice is cheep but Cancer is for keeps if you don't follow your doctors advice...If you do decided to follow any advice..explore that advise fully and decide if it is for you..some advice can be deadly...Donna

I agree; people should see a doctor as soon as they suspect something is wrong.

I understand people's need to ask for others' experiences, and certainly when I was waiting for my appointments and then when I was diagnosed I was hungry to hear the experiences of other people with my type of cancer.

But I really hope people don't rely on the answers here; recently a young woman was asking if her mother would be ok following breast cancer treatment; she gave no other details. Most of the answers assured her that her mum would be fine. Not even the woman's doctors know that! It's really irresponsible to tell cancer patients or their relatives that all will be well.

And it certainly is not the place to ask if you might have cancer - ask a doctor people, please.

I agree. This is not a reliable place for medical help.

There is a connection with the many comments on this board on the lack of medical services in some countries. I understand that in certain countries, not mine, doctors will not see patients who do not have private insurance, or cash. Experts must be expensive, cancer professionals even more so.

I doubt if this board is anyone's first choice....

I think you are right there.
If one noticed something to worry about - then best is to go to medical professional doctor.
However, yes, some people like just to talk about these things and fantasize about it. And if there is a problem and they don't take care of it sooner - condition may get worse.
I there is no problem, but people keep thinking of a possibility of one - then they may develop phsycological equivalent of that condition, which later may manifest physically. So solution comes to the same thing - don't ask your firends - go to the doctor to free your mind.

hi Bill
I can understand the fact that people would like to talk this subject over with people they trust- even in cyber-ville- This is the place to ask not in the hocky section- This is the section where people can and are more understaning to those issues.
Many times people just want to have someone listen- we have to little listen and all toether to many people who are will to give advice
