"i have a dell computer and had no idea it came with only a trial version....it that how it usually comes?" - yes, it's how Microsoft sells M$-Office.

As stated above, Open Office is the best option for you.

Just, read every screen during the installation process to make it virtually 100% compatible with M$-Office.

Must have M$-Office? I have a legal Office 2003 Student and Teacher (good for 3 PCs) for sale, Email me.

Microsoft give a trial version of MS office with OEM OS. This runs for 20 times and you are asked to buy the full version. All of us are so used to MS office that we think it is the only thing on earth that opens a document.
You can try openoffice, staroffice or many of the free office suites available for free on the net.

You need to go to Openoffice.org, it's free and is compatible with Microsoft and Dells. If that doesn't work, go to Microsoft.com and purchase the Microsoft Office package on line.

you can get open office for free, which will open and save in MS formats. openoffice.org
If a standalone word processor is what you need, try AbiWord. it's doc compatible as well.
