Oh! Actually, it is very simple though not quite easy!
It is deeper levels of self-awareness, where a person can experience everything around as a part of oneself!
The fingers of our right hand does not even 'think' or plan to be good, or even waits to refer or be guided by morals or ethics, before it reaches out INSTANTLY when some injury or itch occurs to left hand's fingers!
We talk of becoming a 'true' human being! Well, when even an adequate number become so, then all this global problems especially concerning environment, global warming etc would vanish. Once we realise our deep inter-dependence, we do not need 'ethics' or rules to be really good!

Greetings Friend,
I like your question. It is a very good one. What motivates me to be good is because that's the kind of person I want to be. I want to be a person that has inner peace and in order for me to be that kind of person there are certain things that I believe I must do, some things that I should not do, and some things that it may not matter.
Shephen Covey said, and I believe it's true, that the closer we live in accordance to principles the more stability our society has. The further we live away from principle the more unstable our society is. Principle here has nothing to do with religion, although religions may teach them. What I am talking about is principles such as fairness. When we treat each other fairly and with respect, we build better stability in our families, our societies, and our world. When we treat each other unfairly, our families, our societies, and our world falls apart.
I think being fair to each other is good, so I try to be fair. Honesty is another principle and there are many others that I am sure you can figure out.
So, in a way, since principles span across science, religion, and society, I would say each motivates me and yet none does. And, there are times that even the police motivate me, especially when I see one while driving LOL.
Please forgive me for digressing here but I wanted to add a side note: to me when others say they do good because they want to go to heaven or because that's what God wants, which is the same as saying they want to go to heaven, they are trying to save themselves. We must want to do what is right, or good based on a better reason. Because, those who do not believe in a god could agrue that they do not have to do good because they do not believe in god. However, atheist should be a proof to us that one does not have to do "good" because one believes in god. So, there must be a different reason. I submit my answer as the other reason.
sending love,

I'm motivated to do good by my understanding of the purpose of earth life, by the influence of God (some would call this their conscience), and by the influence of all good people.
Earth life is a school we're sent to by our Father in Heaven to gain experiences that will help us grow and develop. While here we can experience competing "truths" and people making both good and bad decisions. Through these we can develop a better understanding of the principles of happiness and help others do the same. This understanding goes beyond someone simply telling you what's right.
To illustrate, I tell my children to love and serve each other and I hope they'll obey, but they will probably gain significant insight as they experience the love that comes through close relationships with their siblings.
Everyone is born with a conscience that helps guide them between right and wrong. As we obey that conscience, our understanding and sensitivity to it grows making it easier to make "good decisions."
We can be good examples to others, influencing them to do good.

To be always good is virtue by birth / heridetory. It is we, when learn reasoning, learn differentiation and discrimination. To stop or prevent disintegration of society, to some extent possible, I behave in good ways taught or shown by ancestors and Guru.
