There are actual one or two cell jails at some malls in Arizona, but that is because there are Police Substations at those malls.

Nearly all malls (and stores) have loss prevention offices where a detained shoplifter is held until a Police officer can arrive and carry out the citizens arrest on behalf of the loss prevention employee.
I imagine some much larger malls (Mall of America) may have a larger room to hold shoplifters, but I doubt they have a temporary holding facility.

most have a room to detain you until the police arrive. Usually it is just the security office. Mall or store security has no more rights than the average citizen and are only making a citizens arrest. If they detain you and are not 110% in the right, they can be arrested and sued. They need to have you on tape or actually catch you with merchandise to make an "arrest".

Not that I'm aware. we do however use hand-cuffs. You need to understand, a security guard, here in the U.S. has no more lawfull power than "you" do! We make citizens arrest, just like your Grandpa can do only, we take a bigger risk cause arresting someone can really ruin our day! I'd rather not!
