My boyfriend is currently in basic training, and he requested that after tech school he be based in Dayton, Ohio so that he can be somewhat close to home. What are the chances that he'll be put on the base that he wants?

In the Air Force, you fill out a dream sheet during basic, not after tech school like someone said. AFMPC, they load everyone who is due out of tech school against the manning. If there is an opening at a base on your dream sheet, they will try and get you there. If not, the needs of the military come first. As far as filling out dream sheets, you can choose either a specific base, OR an area of the U.S. (i.e. southeastern us). And no, in the AF you don't get a guaranteed first duty assignment in your contract like you can with some other branches. He should recieve his orders after tech school is about halfway done. Thus, making it impossible to fill out your dream sheet after tech school is complete like someone said.

It will be determined by the manning needs of that base verses manning needs of other bases. EX if Ohio is 88% manned in his field/skill level, but somewhere else is manned at 60% he'll go elsewhere.

I am a Marine. So for us, things may be a little different. Now, to my understanding, the Air Force hands out a wish list. On this list, you specify where you "wish" to be stationed but, you can only choose; east coast, west coast or overseas. I believe they do try and get you where you want to be however; ultimately your "wants" are the needs of the U.S. Government and they get what it is that they want. I don't want to discourage you but I don't think he will get what he wants. I hope this helps you...much love, take care.

depends on whether Wright Patt needs somebody with his AFSC and paygrade. If he didn't get it in his contract GTY first duty station, he can expect that it will NOT happen.
