LORAN was back in my day. Before that, Pops used VFR and landing lights. In the war, during blackout periods, Santa just carpet dropped the goodies, hoping to hit an occasional chimney. Today, with PGM (Precision Guided Munchies) he just sits back and watches the monitor. Merry Christmas to you....TD

His HAT!

Yes, as Santa flies through the skies with his eight tiny reindeer, he puts his HAT on a stick, points it at Polaris, the North Star, and uses it as a wind sock.

If you are trying to get to every house I don't think you need much in the line of navigation skills. A map and a pencil to check off where he had been would pretty much cover his needs.
