she woke up with her left eye red and watery. yesterday it was very windy and we were out and about most of the day. there is no sign of the yellow gunk you get when you have pink eye, but it may be too early for that. could it be pink eye? what are the signs?

yea it starting to clear a bit, and she hasn't rubbed it since the one time this morning. I will go to the store and buy some drops, since I am out of that anyway. Thanks

My 3.5 year old son had pinkeye this week. He got a cold first, which means his was probably viral conjunctivitis--there's also bacterial. The doctor prescribed erythromycin ointment for treatment even though it doesn't do any good treating the viral kind, but just in case it was bacteria (they didn't do any tests to determine what kind). You may have the ointment at home already and could self treat or buy an over the counter pink eye treatment. But that would only be if you're sure its pink eye. My son was all red, gunky, and itchy. And recent studies have shown that even with treatment it doesn't really make it go away significantly faster and it will clear up on its own. It sounds like she may have gotten some dust or debris blown into her eye when she was outside yesterday, eye drops might be helpful.

yes, it could be pinkeye Tearing and redness (pinkeye) are the first symptoms. If you catch and treat it early enough, you won't get the yellow gunk.
Taking her to urgentcare is good. The sooner you can treat it the better. Conjunctivitis can cause damage if left untreated.

Pink color and very painful. Just take her to see a Dr. to be sure of things so you wont get it too.
Good luck.

hopefully it's just a minor abrasion in the eye.
