I will be giving gifts to the rest of the guests. The family in question includes mother, father and young teenage boy.

I would give a gift of boxed assorted chocolates. This is something all three can enjoy and won't be expensive. It shows you were thinking of them. Happy Holidays!

Hopefully someone that far removed from the immediate family won't be there for the intimate gift giving portion. Perhaps something small for the family like a fruitcake haha or some blockbuster movie rental certificates or a candy/cookie tray.

I hate times like this.. But I would just go and get a bottle of Wine or something like that and put it in a nice gift Bag.. Give it to your sister in law and tell her it is for anyone who hasn't gotten anything.. Wink and smile..
Then walk off..

Just bring a family gift for the house...a nice plant or something like that.

Yes--give her some perfume.

BUT you know you can get real tiny diamond earrings for like-$10. You know where---wally world.
