Forget flea powders! They are nasty to work with, requires you to rub into carpet and not all vacuum cleaners will suck it all up. When you rub the powder into the carpet the dust flies everywhere. If you do not vacuum all the powder up, you will be able to feel a residue in your carpet. Your cat will need to be locked in another room or caged during this time.

I bought a Dyson upright because my Sears Progressive canister did an inefficient job cleaning up the mess. The Dyson is a great product and well worth the $470 spent on it.

I recommend you put your cat on an Advantage monthly treatment until fleas are gone (2 months should do the trick). Vacuum the entire house and wash all bedding. Buy a cheap 99 cent plastic flea comb to check for fleas on your cat. Buy a adhesive lint roller to check for flea dirt on your sheets/bedding. Flea dirt will look like small skinny blackish curls on the lint roller.

As for your bites, if you are allergic to it like I am, you get big red severely ichy bumps that don't go away for days/weeks without good treatment and may begin to ooze. I recommend you see your doctor or dermatologist for some clobetasol propionate 'gel'. It is a corticosteroid. If you don't get big nasty red rashes then just treat your cat.

Well first of all, get the cat properly treated. Don't use any flea treatments from a pet store because they don't work - get some Frontline, Revolution, Advantage or Advocate from a vets.

Also pick up a proper house spray from your vets. Be sure to treat the cat properly and regularly or you'll never be free from fleas.

MSN just had an article about how vacuuming does indeed kill fleas, but that is just a part of it.
I found that flea powder sprinkled on the carpet and left for a day before vacuuming works great and I didn't have to leave my house or re-clean every thing.
Don't forget the cat!

If you sprinkle salt everywhere and then vaccum it up the following day it should help. I had a severe infestation years ago(looked like I had boots on from fleas), and I put salt everywhere and it worked wonders and very cheap$$.
