I just can't control my temper. I hit my younger brother who has Down's Syndrome when he doesn't listen to me. I have kicked his legs, slapped his face, punched his arms, and shouted at him. He just cries, but still won't listen. I always feel awful after doing these things to him, and I make up for it by buying him things or food that he likes. The thing that makes me so guilty is that he doesn't hit me back and he doesn't get mad. I don't want to hurt him again, but I just have a very bad temper. :(

My parents are away because mom is having her chemotherapy in another country. So for the meantime, I'm in charge of everything.

PLEASE please please don't hit him!!!
As difficult as it is to keep your temper in check, don't take it out on him...he's innocent and not aware of what he's doing wrong!!! You need to give him LOVE!!!

My son is 5 and he has Down Syndrome too. He's my only precious son that I adore with all of my heart and soul. He DOES make me mad because he doesn't understand simple things we all take for granted...I use a firm voice and a mad face but NO hitting...

You're damaging his self esteem, your hurting him in ways other than the physical.

If you need to email me when you feel like hitting him or when he's acting up then PLEASE email me...I'll talk with you because there's nothing worse than what you're doing.
DON"T hit him, kick him, not at all!!!

Redirect him to positive behavior. Like a way of changing his attention away from the bad behavior, give him something else to do instead of hurting him!!!

He's a baby in his mind and an angel and remember you
are the big sister. EMAIL me anytime, I'm here to help...

We don't know what age you are, but whatever
it is - what you're doing is assault.

"I just have a really bad temper." is not a
successful defence in court, mainly because
it does not explain nor excuse violent
behaviour.

If your brother wasn't smaller and weaker,
would you hit him? Like - if he was 6 foot
tall and strong? If there was a policeman
or a teacher standing next to you, could
you stop yourself from expressing your
anger? Coz if you can control it under
those circumstances, then you can control
it full stop.

If you're school age ask to see a school
counsellor.

Otherwise - make sure that you are never
alone with your brother.

Visualize how you'll have to explain what
happened if anyone notices his bruises
and any injuries.

Visualize yourself in court.

Want to stop and remind yourself that you
CAN stop - because it's a fact that you can.

I wish you and your brother all the best.

You realize your brother is incapable of changing his behavior, so it's very likely that you're going to continue abusing him for no reason other than your so-called "bad" temper. I'm getting somewhat angry reading your question because I know you know better. The crazy thing is, angry though I am, I am not hurting anyone. You need to learn similar self-control before you hurt someone further or get yourself into trouble. You will never beat his condition out of him, and he faces enough life challenges without his own sister being one of them. Grow up.

Please don't hurt him any more. I can imagine it's hard dealing with your brother but still.. It's unfair.
Where are your parents? You should leave the room whenever you feel like venting. That helps.
Talk to someone before something worse happens.

Seek counseling before you seriously hurt him or he may one day seriously hurt you w/out meaning too. You do what you learn.
