What is your interpretation of these Bible quotes....?

I'm a little curious about what translation you're using! However, I would say that the first one means just what it says and has a bit of a liberal slant, since it seems to imply that the government should take care of us.

Likewise, the second means that Jesus died to save everyone, saint and sinner alike. I don't quite follow the "put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit," since he was also made alive in the body again three days later and was, one would assume, alive in the Spirit all along.

As for the third one, I take it to mean that if no one did anything wrong, we wouldn't have to have laws against such actions. I'm rather intrigued by your translation's use of the phrase "slave traders," since two of the three translations I looked at said "kidnappers" and the third (KIng James) said "menstealers." But the Greek word ("andrapodistais") DOES mean "those who kidnap [free] men to sell them into slavery." (And it means "men" specifically, not "people.") Curious that other translations have overlooked the purpose of that kidnapping or "men-stealing"!

The literal one. I think they're pretty straight forward. The first one is saying don't be a rebel against those who are placed in authority over you, don't cheat people out of what they are owed, be joyful in doing these things because of the greater good that comes from it, etc. etc. The second one is talking about how Jesus suffered to do what was right, and was blessed for it, and so we should, too. The third one basically says we are not saved (deemed righteous) by the law, but rather by grace alone, through our faith in Jesus Christ.

I have trouble with no.1. The tax rate in the Roman Empire was normally 1.5 - 3% or higher for punitive reasons... not 50% like today and there was no income tax which did not appear until WWI.

Those are fairly random verses that are on different subjects.
The second is the most important because God knows we all sin and make mistakes, bad decisions, etc.

Ironically many of our mistakes are made trying to reach God (through false religions, cults, misguided motives, etc.)


Thankfully, there's a way to be righteous with Him through Jesus!
