It easy to say that you would, because you seem selfish if you say no. But it truly depends on the circumstance.

Most people would act without thinking, if they saw a child about to be run over. If someone had a gun to a child's head, and were telling you to do something menial, you'd probably do it.

But let's say you were the president, and a terrorist (sorry, the only thing that cam e to mind) had a child hostage with a knife to its throat, and told you to launch a nuclear attack against a sovereign and benevolent country. That's a harder call.

Let's say, for instance, that your wife was giving birth, and the doctora came out and told you that there was a problem. If your wife delivers, she may die, and the child might die as well, or they could abort and save your wife's life. That I think would be an even harder call.

It's easy to say what you would do, but until you are put in that situation, you'll never know, will you?

Before I was a parent I could say yes off the top of my head and I knew even then that I probably wouldn't.
As a parent, it isn't even an option to think that I wouldn't. As a matter of fact, parenting is about laying down your life for your child. I would prefer that it doesn't come to that.

All armed forces personnel, all firefighters, all doctors, nurses, police, lay down their lives every day so kids can live.

There's other ways to lay down your life for someone besides dying also.

I loved that movie so much I watched it until I can't watch it any more. I think it's one of Denzel's best, in my opinion.

Thanks for a good Q :)

I would in an instant. The innocents need protection from adults. What really irks me is when someone drives down the street (usually at excessive speed) in a neighborhood filled with playing children, hits one of them & doesn't stop. The children may be partially at fault, simply because they are playing and don't pay attention. The driver is supposed to be a responsible adult who in this case would be considered reckless & totally irresponsible!

I'd like to think so. It's easy to SAY I would. But I don't think anyone knows what they'll do when facing death, until they face death.
