Catch her being good. Have a little bit of fun tea parties with her before you go. I would say start now. Let her know that you see her being good and let her know how wonderful she is behaving. You see, after 3 little (now beautiful teenagers) girls, I learned that the little ones will do anything they feel necessary to get our attention, be it good or bad. So, if we are the first to notice when they are behaving? They realize that they don't need to misbehave to get that attention. They soon find that the rewards are much greater when they get our positive attention. We need to take the time to poke our heads into their room and tell them, "You are being so good and I am so proud of you!"., and then go back to the hard chore of being a parent and taking care of a household. It only takes 10 seconds about 20 or 30 times a day to positively affirm a child's self worth and they will behave the way you want them to.

Tell her before it begins that she is expected to behave. You didn't say how old she is, but I'm assuming she's about 4...tell her that if she is well behaved she can open the first present but if she's misbehaved Santa will take everything back.

Don't let her get to tired or hungry before dinner. My neice who is 4 seems to better when she is well rested and not starving. My son who is 13 months just needs to be well rested. If she is really having a hard time just give an activity for her to work on quietly.

Hopefully you've been trying to teach her manners at the table previous to this so it won't be a shock. Make sure she gets a nap in rior to the meal and hold out a gift for her to open for "after she is polite throught dinner" so you can mention at dinner how she isn't to throw her spoon so she can open her gift..Now your husbands farting at the table is a whole different story..and one I cannot assist with :)

Don't let her take a Nap in the afternoon. Let her play all day and afternoon in the back yard. Then give her a bath at 6 PM. She should be out like a light by 7PM.

Save presents to either give to her if she is good or give to charity if she is bad. Or hopefully she will respect all the gifts she was given and have good table manners.
