Somewhere some time a few thousand years ago someone played connect the dots with about a hundred different stars and decided that they sort of look like animals, and then they decided that if you are born at a certain time of the year you will take on the personality characteristics of the animal.

First of all let's talk about the NUMBER of stars there are. I saw Carl Sagan on TV once pick up a hand full of sand. He said that the number of grains of sand in his hand is equal to the number of stars you can see on a clear night. Then he said that the number of stars in the universe is equal to the number of grains of sand on every beach on the planet. Remember him, he is the one who was always saying Biiiiilions. That is because he was talking about the number of celestial bodies in the universe. THERE ARE BILLIONS of STARS. But despite the fact that there are billions of stars, planets, black holes, moons, comets, asteroids, etcetera 100 or so stars, that is the number of stars in the 12 signs of the Zodiac, have more influence on us and are more powerful than all the other BILLIONS of celestial bodies in all the universe.

And oh yes the thing that makes us the most human, free will and the ability to make choices are negated by these hundred stars billions of miles away. At least that is what the Astrologers would have us believe.

Why is that ??

Is it the chemical composition of those 100 stars ?

Why are 100 stars that coincidentally happen to be in a connect the dots picture more powerful than all the other stars in the Universe ??

Anyone care to do the math 100/1,000,000,000 = .00000001

1/100,000,000 th of the stars CONTROL EVERYTHING IN OUR LIVES

AND WE HAVE NO CHOICE!!!

What is the point of living ?

We have no choice in who or what we are or will become because we are ruled by stars BILLIONS of MILES away from us.

That's the next question.

What is it exactly that these stars are beaming at us, light, gravity, ????, gamma rays, x rays,

How do these "signals" remain intact when traveling over such a great distance.

How do our bodies interpret these signals ??

More importantly how do they differentiate them from all the other light, gravity, etc from the other billions of stars in the universe ??

Here is one I love.

I had an employee call in sick because Mercury had gone retrograde.

Because the earth orbits faster than Mercury, and mercury's orbit is very elliptical, the Earth catches and passes Mercury every once in a while. AND that makes it look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky.

Yes back in the day when they made up all this stuff they actually thought that a planet that weighed billions and billions of tons and was orbiting at millions of miles an hour actually stopped and moved backwards in the sky. How imfucking possible is that ?? Back then they also believed that the Earth was flat and that every single planet, star, etc, in the universe orbited around the Earth. Didn't they put someone to death Gallileo ?? When he tried to showed that the planets orbited around the sun ??

But still today, even with all the scientific explanation of what is going on people who believe in Astrology also believe that Mars is stopping and changing directions in mid orbit.

What a complete load of crap. 3,000 years ago, someone plays connect the dots with the stars, and says that some of them Look like a Bull, and some different ones look like a set of twins, and the ONLY hot woman in all of Santa Fe says "Sorry you are really funny, and good looking, but I NEVER date Geminis"

OK, OK, except for that part about the fact that I am funny and good looking, and there is only one hot woman in Santa Fe, the rest of the story is true.

It is my ex wife who was the Gemini, and the actual quote, after I caught her cheating on me with a Crack Head biker, and I asked her how she could be such a *****, she said "I can't help it. I'm a Gemini"

P.S. I have learned something new since I first posted this. Due to the wobble in the earth's rotation the sun does not even come up in the same constellations at the same time of the year that it did back when they made this crap up. The sun comes up in Gemini in July now, instead of June.

Oh and one more thing. It takes thousands of years for the light to get here from the stars or what ever the still yet to be determined magic "force" that emanates from the stars so by the time the "force" get's here the planet will be nowhere close to where it is in the sky. And get this. In another 10,000 years or so the planets will have moved so much that the connect the dots pictures will no longer resemble anything close to the pictures we see today. What then ??

Do you make new connect the dots pictures and give everyone new personality traits based upon the new pictures ??

I think you have the whole "connect the dots" progression backwards. The constellations of the zodiac were created to mark the positions of the signs and summarize a concept of the characteristics associated with each sign. So, while there may be billions upon billions of stars, there are a relatively limited number of visible ones, and in modern tropical astrology they've pretty much served as a backdrop, for positional reference along the ecliptic. The suggestion that these stars are said to be influencing us directly is a straw man.

Free will is something people love to talk about having, but has it ever really been established that we do? Not a comforting thought, I know. Besides, fatalistic astrology is mostly a thing of the past. Of course we have a choice. When we are hungry, we can still refuse to eat, though that's not what we'll usually do.

An employee who calls in sick because Mercury is retrograde might as well say they can call in sick within 2 weeks (or so) of any solstice or equinox. It's that silly of an excuse. But this does nothing to say that astrology is bunk, only that there are too many people who think they understand it and look like fools for how they handle their knowledge thereof.

Saying that astrology is ridiculous because it has superstitious roots is no different than saying the same thing about medicine or mathematics. Actually, Copernicus was first noted for voicing the truth about the earth orbiting the sun, and Galileo echoed him, with the additional scientific observation that the earth also rotates on an axis, meaning the ground and all of us with it is constantly in rotational motion.

Saying you can't help but do something because of your sun sign is yet far worse than Mr. Mercury Retrograde, mentioned above. Yes, too many people will use what they know about astrology to excuse themselves for what they know is jerky behavior. It's not only for idiots, though. Hard as that may be to see.

What you are talking about, in regards to the earth's axis wobbling, is taken into consideration. The constellations don't currently (and won't again for more than 20,000 years) line up with the signs of the tropical zodiac, the one commonly used in Western astrology. It is the signs, defined by the earth's orbit around the sun, that are important. So, as I stated above, the constellations and stars that comprise them may be nothing more than antiquated place-markers in astrology. The tropical zodiac typically used in the Western world is unconcerned with stars other than our sun. Charts drawn with this system examine the motion within our solar system, relative to a point on the earth.

Some would be characterized that way. But probably not many as most idiots lack the ability to understand an abstract concept such as remote influences as causes of personality and historical effects. Some are just ignorant (whether willfully or involuntarily is a different question). Others chose to suspend what (if any) analytical thinking abilities they have. The evidence against much of astrological forecasts is overwhelming. As is evidence about the predictions of personality based on birth date. Some of the answers here show that these people are either ignorant or unable to think clearly and in depth (or most likely some of both). Perhaps we can agree that believers in astrology are notably "limited". (as are we all). Before you judge them (I call them twinkies) too harshly look up Bell's Inequality and Bells' Theorem. After that you won't have much of an excuse to revile non-local cause and effect.

When I incorporated astrology into my psychic coaching practice it was paramount for me to be able to ‘cut to the chase’. Many enthusiastic astrologers leave me in a cosmic confusion (and wondering if I need medication) when they regurgitate those Planetoids in Uranus interpretations with too much focus on transits, progressions, planetary returns and solar arcs. The artistry of astrology is in answering your questions of ‘what’s in it for me'? in a down to earth and usable way. And that comes from holding a vision of the heavens while keeping one’s feet on the ground; the way of the Astrology Junkie. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/astrology-junkie.html

Christianity is built around another sun god.

!2 disciples = 12 months

three wise men = winter solstice

Astrology is just another form of man made religion. No more fake than the other religions.

astrology is suitable for anyone who is willing to believe things which are not true.

its advantage over most religions is that it doesn't tell you to hate gays.

Yes and for the superstitious, naive, needy, confused, lost people who don't want to be accountable for their own actions hence, stupid replies such as "I can't help myself, I'm a Gemini". Astrology is just another timewasting distraction.
