"Sermon" not "sermen".
What day of the week is the sabbath (another time your spell check didn't work) is not mentioned in the Bible, so the people working on Sunday (also capitalized) may use Wednesday or Saturday as their sabbath and be perfectly in keeping with the commandment. I believe the intent of the commandment was that people should reserve one day for spiritual pursuits rather than commercial ones. The actual day of the week is not important.
("Religious" has an "s" on the end.)
I have had the same thoughts as you.
Get a better spell check.

An atheist who attends church. Hmmm.
You apparently misused spell check. When it picks out a word and offers alternatives, you're supposed to pick the right one. Sermon. Sabbath. Hypocritical. Religious.
As for your question, why is hypocrisy in religious people still surprising to you? They're all about hypocrisy. You must be quite young, or you'd know this already.
Oh, yeah! Almost forgot! Speaking of hypocrisy....an atheist who attends church?!?!?

Humans function better with one full day of rest per week. This time is best spent in general reflection. Our culture no longer utilizes a specific "rest day". Understand that this Sabbath Day was specific to the LAW of the culture at the time. The principle is for the individual to spend 1 day in recuperation, reflection, and communion with God.
Observing the Sabbath is neither right or wrong. That you are searching for answers is the true point holiness. Be careful that you do not mistake observance of rules for the real experience of your own self's genuine soul and it's connection. Also, be accepting of your own contradictions and seek to understand them. You will find the answers you are looking for.

Is it a sin to do good on Sunday?
Jesus was questions by the religious leaders of his day on this very thing.
He asked them, what one of you would not rescue a lamb that is lost, for it had fallen into a well and was separated from the flock on the Sabbath?
As for working a job on the Sabbath, which day is the Sabbath? Did God not work six days and rest on the seventh? So if a man works six days, regardless of a particular day, and rests on the seventh, and keeps it Holy, does he not still honor the Sabbath?
And what if a man keeps everyday Holy, then could it not be said that everyday is the Sabbath?
Jesus said the Sabbath was created for man, not man for the Sabbath.
So is it wrong to do good on the Sabbath? Nay, if anything, it establishes the Sabbath, by keeping it Holy by doing that which is good in the eyes of God.

Well the spell check did not work. There should also be a grammar check. Anyways, yes it is VERY hypocritical but when did Christians really ever care about that?
P.S. I am not judging you by mentioning the incorrect spelling and grammar, I do it too. I may have done it on this answer for all I know. You asked for it.

I am a Christian and I believe they should have taken you to their home for a meal and games or something. If they take the sabbath literal they shouldn't go to places where people are working.
By the way, I couldn't live without spell check.

Yea, that is "kind of hipocritical" as far as I am concerned, but the Christian church today is in a state of "lukewarmness" that the Bible predicted it would be in in the last days, and it seems to be the way it is done today. What you need to look at is what God says in His Word, not what people do, even if they are pastors. 50 years ago a pastor would not be caught dead in a movie on any day of the week.

being a preacher doesn't make you perfect as you now found out; when I was younger , everything was closed on Sunday; it was a day to go to church , family, friends etc; no work (with the exception of police fire hospital etc) then corporate America got in and started violating the blue law on Sunday and opened their store ; they would pay the fine b/c the money was pouring in ; soon more and more joined in and then they overturned the law; that is why here in USA , everything is open on Sunday; your observation is correct.

I'm atheist too, my dad is very religious. Part of being religious is the "I'm the center of the universe" syndrome. Its when a religious person unknowingly contradicts their own rules. Usually on a regular basis. This is seen constantly in American culture in general.

i say, if you have to work on Sunday to feed your family so be it. just as long as you take time to worship and reflect on God, your good. that's all he asked. Jesus even said it's ok to work on the Sabbath (which isn't on Sunday by the way) if you have no choice. He said, "if your bull got caught in a pit on the Sabbath, would you just leave him there. no you would go get him out"?
God Bless.
