it's likely because most people who are poor tend to be depressed so it's not uncommon to over eat as a result of the depression. 1.50 for a lb of apples vs. .10 cents for ramen noodles. which one seems more likely for the poor person to go for. Quantity vs. quality. they can have more meals from the ramen than they can from the apples. Fruits and veg will always be better for you but crap-yes ramen, mac n' cheese etc' are cheaper

Lazy people cannot afford healthy foods.
If you are serious about your health, you don't mind walking a little to the farmer's market to get fresh ANd cheap veggies and fruit.
Porridge oats - this is a really filling meal to start the day with, not to mention very cheap -
Potatoes - these provide a great base for any meal whether they’re the main part of a meal, e.g. baked potatoes (with a cheap and nutritious filling such as baked beans or tuna), or the side dish, e.g. mashed, boiled or roasted to complement a nutritious meal. Store potatoes expensive.< li more often are potatoes new baby however, remember, while. a quite last will they and place cool dark in>
Rice - this is another cheap and nutritious source of filling, starchy food, and makes a great accompaniment to dishes like curry or chilli, and can be added to salads as well. There are also many varieties to choose from to spice up your meal!
Pasta - this is a good base for a number of dishes; generally cheap (more so if you buy in bulk) and low in fat. Try making your own pasta sauces, rather than buying the expensive ready-made sauces!
Frozen vegetables - these can often be cheaper, and just as nutritious, as fresh vegetables. They can also go further, as you only need to take what you need out of the freezer, avoiding the potential waste of fresh vegetables.
Fruits in season can often be cheaper and probably taste better!.

Unfortunately, it is true. Especially if you are trying to feed a family, not just yourself. Unhealthy food has always been less expensive than healthy foods. Look at the price of the ramen noodle soups, canned pasta, powered cheese and macaroni mixes, burger helper and fast food places. Lean meats and poultry are very expensive. The most fatty and unhealthful selections are cheaper. If you have to feed a family of 2,3, or 4 and have a very low income......it's more economical to buy a package of cheap hotdogs and buns and powdered cheese and macaroni mix than it would be to buy a lean roast, fresh or frozen veggies and the fixins to make a lowfat roast beef and vegetables dinner or to buy some fresh chicken breasts and roast or broil them with a mixed greens salad and fresh veggies. It is cheaper to cook up some chicken legs, fake chicken nuggets or those disgusting looking cheap frozen dinners that sell for less than $2.00 a box. Now.....if you lived on your own, it is much easier to live on a low income. You're only cooking for one. That is a HUGE difference. It angers me that in order to eat healthy, you need to make a decent amount of money. It's been that way for a long, long time and it isn't fair. If the health foods were available for ALL people there would be fewer health issues in our country.

This is true, although many people have been saying that healthy foods are more then unhealthy food. If you take it in another way, you can buy food that is overall healthier for you, for cheaper, but only if you know where to go. If you are to go to a fast food joint, such as McDonald's, a cheeseburger of of a dollar menu is a dollar. A grilled chicken sandwich may be more then five. It is overall cheaper to make food with grease, and takes less time to make it fried instead of light and grilled.

I dont know where you live but there are alot of low income persons where I am and the groceries dont have much of a variety of health foods. The unhealthy foods are always on sale the quality of fresh fruits and vegetables are horrible. I was at the supermarket the other day and a pack of granola bars was 5 dollars meanwhile a box of fudge cakes where 1.19.

There is always good food available at cheaper prices, but sometimes that is not always enough. Marketing campaigns for fast food restaurants target people with lower sources of income with lower prices, and people normally buy food at McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and others to get more bang for your dollar.
I have nothing but respect for your spending habits, but I found a significant increase in the amount of money I'm spending when I want to eat healthy. But that's just one man's opinion.

If you make $789 in 2 weeks thats alittle over 20,000 dollars a year. You are not poor. You arent even close to the poverty line. Try eating Ramin noodles everyday for a year and then tell me how you look.

it doesn't have to be true. I'm like you. I don't make much money, but I buy healthy foods. I don't eat fast food, even though I could get lots of food off the dollar menu. I think it has more to do with education and motivation. I've seen well-off people that are fat because they don't cook healthy meals. they eat take out fast food.

I agree. I am on a strict budget w/ 2 kids and find healthy unprocessed food cheaper than ready made, fast food crap. Don't believe everything you read or hear in the news. Not all poor people are too lazy to take care of themselves and their families.

how do poor people get money to pay for food?
Do you see fat homeless people?
I think it would be better to say that people arent buying healthier foods because its expensive. I would love to eat organic, but i have too many bills to pay. Boxed foods are easier and cheaper. That doesnt mean that I buy the unhealthiest types of food because I make less money.
its ludacris.
