I know this is a gross question but honestly I don't know why I got sick from eating raw cookie dough.I have never gotten sick from eating raw dough, but last night I made some and snacked on it as I was baking cookies and hours later I was in for a terrible surprise. Stomach cramps, diarrhea, this went on for hours. I wasn't running a fever or at least I didn;t think I was. I never vomited either. So I don't think I got salmonella poisoning. What happened? Has this ever happened to you?

An easy answer - if there were eggs in the dough then it is likely that you got food poisoning. Salmonella is common to get from raw eggs.

If you notice your condition worsening then it would be wise to get yourself into the Doctor. Otherwise it should pass quickly if it hasn't already.

A remote possibility is that you ate something else in the last 72 hours that may have given you food poisoning. Your symptoms match that scenario.

Even so, it is wise to NOT eat raw eggs unless you saw it come out of the chicken's bottom, freshly laid. The eggs in the store may be weeks old before you even buy them and if they weren't handled properly, then it likely would be a case of food related illness. It happens more frequently than you might imagine.

So you bake your cookies with eggs? You are not supposed to have raw eggs for the possible diseases, like salmonella, and I don't know what else. You could go years without comming up with a bad one. Or so my wife tells me. I eat lots of stuff raw too, makes my wife sick just to watch. been lucky so far.

Yes, there are sugar alcohols in a lot of cookie dough mixes. This is a special mixture mainly put in foods for diabetics. My younger sister is a diabetic and one time I ate a bunch of her special cookie dough and I got really sick. I actually did this last night. Worst part was that I was at the mall Christmas shopping when it kicked in. I usually get stomach cramps, feel dehydrated, and have (what my little sisters call) #3. I can tell you for sure, its the sugar alcohols. Best not overdo it next time.

Some cookie doughs use pasteurized eggs, which kills any salmonella. But some doughs do not.

If you check the package, it will say on there "pasteurized eggs" in the ingredient list, or somewhere on the label. If it did have pasteurized eggs, you probably couldn't have gotten salmonella.

You might have gotten a low dose of salmonella. It's risky to eat anything that has raw egg. I hope you feel better.

Well, first realize that the body acts differently, always... The amount of sugar, how warm the eggs got before you used them, how warm the dough was when you ate it, etc. The body acts differently from day to day, let alone month to month, year to year. It could even have been caused by whatever it was you ate earlier in the day, if you even ate anything.

DON'T EAT THE UNCOOKED DOUGH. IT PROBABLY HAS RAW EGGS IN IT WHICH CAN BE SPOILED AND CAN GIVE YOU A BAD DIGESTIVE UPSET.
