in islam, allah brings lightnin 4 two reasons, hope an fear, sum hope for sum rain wen they see it an sum fear the power an wraf of allah. they cant do nothing to stop lightnin mankind is not as strong as they fink. allah forms the mountains as pegs on the earth. without them disarsters would b happenin al the tym even science coinsides with this, as does all scientific aspects of islam. allah also causes the earth quakes he can do this to punish a people or a town/ place for the evil that they do jus like he did with the people of lot bcoz of thier sodomony, and noah an many others. the will of allah makes a volcano erupt, the stars have three puposes; as decoration an a beautification of the earth, as a guide to mankind like a map to no thier way in the land and to chase away the dveils(shooting stars) wen they try to go up to the heavens to eaves drop an gather information from there to find out wats gonna happen in the future, wen in acual fact if they find out they onli reveal 1% of the truth an twist it an mix it with 99% of lies an faulse-ness( if thts even a word lol)

They are part of the created world that God created.

[do not make the mistake of thinking that all creationists are 7/24 hr day believers (known as young earth creationists)]

Check out www.reasons.org for Scientists that are Christian, that have no problem with billions of years, and the big bang, and stuff we see in universe, like dark matter and here at home, plate tectonics, and such.

"religious" texts like the Bible do describe the expansion of the universe, the earth being round, mountains being pushed up, fire of the deep . . . but not a lot . . . that is not the topic or purpose . . . it does say that the universe shouts of the Glory of God!

In a sad note, a geology prof at Pakistan's leading university noted that when he tried to explain the devastating earthquake in terms of plate tectonics, his GRADUATE students contradicted him by explaining it in terms of god's anger (with Pakistani cooperation with the great Satan USA).

I am not sure that any religious texts give explanations for these things, except how the mountains were formed. Genesis is pretty clear that God created the heavens and the earth, and I would assume that would include mountains. It can also be argued that Genesis provides an explanation for all natural phenomena: God Did It!

They say "God" is the cause and creator of everything.

In reality Gods were created by people, not people by Gods. The idea of a higher power controlling everything was because of one thing.
Ignorance of the unknown.
When people are ignorant, they become fearful. When they are fearful, they begin to make irrational conclusions about what is going on.

Where are you heading with this question?
the religious texts generally relate to catastrophic events.
there wasn't much known about science back in the day so all were attributed to God.

These are all natural occurrences. Try asking about fractals, string theories and Mandelbrot Sets.

In the Creator the natural qualities of knowledge, power and creativity exist.
This universe is formed by the cohesion of atoms...they undergo changes as a result of the effect of cold,heat,rain,water,etc...

Um, this may sound like a way out of a question, but I don't see what that has to do with religion? Like I said, it sounds like I'm trying to get out of a difficult question, but why would scientific questions like that have anything to do with religion? Whether there is a god or not, the answers to those questions will be exactly the same.
