Ok, so I have an ancient disk containing the first Age of Empires. The problem is, it's all rusty and scratched. So, like I did with my copy of Tomb Raider II, I'm trying to put it on a new CD.

However, the trouble is, with a few files, even after reinserting the disk and repeated attempts, it keeps giving the error message that it could not read the source file or source disk.

Now, does this mean the file is irreperably damaged? If not, how would I get it to work? The odd thing is, for some of the sounds it can't copy, I CAN play them on the computer.

Response to first answer: Hmm...Well, ok, I'll consider that, but for now, I'd like some help and see if I could do it myself.

Response 2: Well, from what I've read, if that doesn't work, the CD will be ruined, and I'm not willing to risk that.

Go to your local DVD hire shop, most of the good ones have facilities to repair scratched and badly worn disks, and see what they can do for you.

You prolly need to get rid of some of the scratches first.

Here's a place where people have mentioned their own ways of doing that: http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=905236

Here's a video on how someone does it with toothpaste: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/547259/remove_scratches_from_anything_using_toothpaste/
