I admit that this is the first year I have seen the mindlessness of people who are like lemmings going to slaughter as they frantically try to fulfill the overwhelming obligations of the holidays. There is an urgency everywhere. I would prefer to see the Love and Compassion that is suggested by the season of Light Returning. I used to be a part of the mad push, doing lavish decorations, gifts, and dinners/entertainments. As with everyone else, I felt the rush to create the illusion of joy and peace and harmony, but, of course, it was just that--an illusion. As I walked the mall recently, I became aware of how unconsciously people enter the holidays, buying into the "buying" mode. If it were only about giving gifts to others, there are myriads of ways and times to do so; in fact year-round is a great time to give to anyone, not because of a "commercial" date that merchants and big business devise for us (birthdays, valentine's day, easter, christmas, secretary day, grandparents day, etc.). This is all about profit as it is played out these days. Imagine the "old days" when a simple tree (though I personally gave up cutting down a living entity some time ago), simple strings of popcorn, one gift, a gathering family united in love and conviviality, rather than the frantic, presssured, savings-depleting extravaganzas that most currently engage in. Too, how about shifting the emphasis from the ego to the divine in all. Hate and intolerance are not part of my nature, so these qualities are not part of what discomfits me. Namaste. I am Sirius

Spring and summer fill me with love and compassion more. I'm afraid I'm not at my best this time of year cause I don't like the cold and long hours of darkness.

Happy holidays to you.

What a swell question. Thank you. This lifelong atheist is very nearly aways filled with love and compassion...as well as recognition of my good fortune, the fact that I came of age in profound poverty in the backward South yet filled my years as a professional actor, and my friends, my many friends, and my beautiful wife. Peace and love to you as well! --Yank.

I am filled mostly with awe and wonder.

I am simply amazed at how nice everyone is this time of year!

Thankfully in a few days - we will all be back to normal - just as rude and impatient and intolerant as ever!

Love, but it does sort of bother me, all the people that think they can drive crazy, cuss people out, or be rude because they are in a hurry, shopping, I think the most peaceful day is Christmas Morning when everyone is inside.
but why must we torture and put everyone in a train wreck leading up to it.
It should be about thanking God for the greatest gift we could ever have, and that is Jesus Christ.
None of these material things we are knocking each other over for, is gonna last forever.
The Gift Jesus gives last eternally.

I'm always filled with love and compassion, but moreso at Yuletide.

I am only intolerant of the intolerant, wilfully stupid and bigoted.

I don't think I 'hate' anyone.

It fills me with joy and hope, because I celebrate the birth of my Lord and Savior, who came into the world as a small baby, died on the cross for my sins, and rose again from the dead. He will return one day for me, and I will be waiting!! Merry Christmas!! God Bless
