Mental disorders and chemical imbalances not withstanding, I think we live in a "I'm such a victim society" where people do not want to stand up and take charge of their lives. They get a payoff from being miserable having these "woo is me" tales to tell everyone.
Yawn.

How can the door be closed, you ask? For many they close the door themselves, big time, with the grand finale. I feel depression is NOT an illness. Depression is what is felt by sensitive, realists who see the futility of the pointless efforts of those who chase the dream of all encompassing "Happiness & Peace On Earth". Ain't gonna happen, people!! All the smiling do-gooders in the world won't change human nature, which is inherently evil. I realize many will respond by refuting my hypothesis with the point that many ARE better after treatments of some kind or religion. These are apearances only. These people have been brainwashed into believing they are no longer depressed by positive thinking, etc. & that's just bunk. Once they come off the man-induced cloud nine back to reality the only true conclusion they can come to is, again, depression due to the natural human condition. Why can't we ALL just get along? Look around you, the majority don't because we're just not made to, as conflict brought about by competition, breeds it. Now you can go ahead and force yourselves to have a wonderful day but remember, it won't last. I'm happy with that. But for you, isn't THAT depressing?

We are living in a very sad world. There are several reasons as to why this is happening.
First, much has changed in the last 50 years; the family unit has morphed into something quite different. Parents don't seem to be parents anymore.
Second, marriages have disintigrated and we have a national average of less than half succeeding and of those probably half of those are in trouble.
Third, people have become more hard-hearted. They think much less of others, and not too much of themselves sometimes too.
Fourth, morals, values and what is important in life has gone down the tubes. People seem to think they can make up the rules as they go along to fit their own needs and wants. Just look at all of the people "hooking up" out there and the children being born to single mothers with fathers who don't hang around.
Fifth, 50 years ago, this country respected and valued what it was built on, Christianity. Today, we have special interest groups bullying people into going along with their warped program that tears down what is decent, moral and right. When you take God out of the equasion, you begin to lose your strong foundation, which is what we had in this country and are losing.
Sixth, hope is a word that people don't have in their vocabulary. When you don't have hope, you don't have much.
What is the answer; get back to what is real, care more about others, make wise decisions in our lives realizing there are consequences for what we do bringing back morals, don't let small groups strong arm us to tolerate their nonsense, and stop them from taking God out of this countries backbone. By doing all of these things, we will have hope here again.

People are constantly searching for that "high" that makes life feel right. Some try drugs. Some try sex. Some try work. We will experiment with anything and everything to fill this void that makes us depressed. If there is a void - something is missing!
As a Christian, I found out personally, that my void (HUGE VOID) was God. Everything else is fake and will not work - long term. We are designed by God with a "spiritual" part and that part is supposed to be filled by Him - by God. This is what makes us different that all other living things.
I used to believe that we (human) were just biological entities. Really no different that dogs, cats, birds.........name it. We are slime that just made it a bit further along.
WRONG!
No other animal practices "worship". This is the part that makes us different and proved to me that there is a God and for me, that God is Jesus Christ. My empty 1/3 has been filled (is filling) with the presence of the Trinity that is God and I cannot be depressed. I have found the joy that is this life. I can be sick, divorcing, out of work, poor and rejected, but I cannot and will not be depressed. I have the richness and fullness of God within me and every breath is a gift.

Because man is not "man" and woman is not "Woman".All human values have eroded and mankind has sadly adopted beastly qualities.Jealousy, greed, anger, lustful desires, gambling, prostitution, drinking etc have all enveloped the world and is dominating so the end result is mankind is depressed.
We all are experiencing the feeling "stop the world i want to get off".
Its time we try to look for answers to questions like. Why am I here on this earth? Where was i before?Whats going to happen to me after i die and where will i be?Should i not be accountable for the evil I have done and not go scot free, since that is the value we want while we live on this earth.
Religion wise i must search for the real Truth.
When we get the answers and the Real Truth all our sadness will vanish as we are only "transit" passengers in this world and the Real world is yet to come.

Because::
1...my classmate and neighbour have a PSP3 each
and I have none
2...my siblings' exam scores are above 80% and I get
scoldings and criticisms by my parents by scoring
borderline marks
3...my dad has lost his job and i don't get any pocket
money for school
and a host of other problems in society like broken relationships, going into debts, getting into trouble with the law, etc. Depression is very common in the First world societies as living becomes more complex and materialistic. Being a citizen in an advanced society has its disadvantages and serious afflictions. It is a heavy price we have to pay.

One man's meat is another man's poison. There are so many depressed people in the world due to other people making them depressed. Like the kids you all bullied in high school. He's prolly jumped off the building. The door can be closed if people start treating other people right, and spend everyday like its christmas, by giving and sharing.

Praise the Lord!!
Jesus Christ the Righteous can close that "revolving door" and NO MAN CAN OPEN IT!!
I use to be very violent and near homocidal, but when I got saved, all that went away... and hear I am 9 years later and still going for Jesus!
God bless.

Religion often teaches that things are not OK the way that they are. It seems that something always needs to be fixed.,
It's like nothing is ever good enough the way that it is.
Buddhism seems to be the only exception.
I recently saw the Dali Lama with a group of other religious leaders. He was the only one smiling.
I think that can explain a lot for us if we are paying attention.
Love and blessings Don
