The most common translation of lol is: Laugh Out Loud. However I have heard some of my friends saying it can also mean: Lots Of Love. I think when most people use it they mean Laugh Out Loud.

It's emailng slang for things like "that was so funny" or when you are talking to someone on MSN and you say something funny and they laugh, they put lol to say that they laughed and they found it funny.

It can also be a very good conversation ender. E.G. if you are talking to someone that you don't really want to ta3k to and you don't know how to put it, say lol after they have said something that isn't funny and they normally will find it hard to pick up the conversation again (well, this happens to me a lot! :)
