I don't understand all the negativity toward Vista, it is a very good operating system. I have been using it since it was first offered back in February, without any problems.

Now to answer your question. All Vista installation come with what is called "Any Time Upgrade". It allows you to upgrade any Vista install. But it is not free. Most of my customers that operate Vista find that Home Premium is all or more then they need, so I would suggest that you start there and them move up when you can afford it. Home Premium runs well on 2 gigs of ram, but Ultimate would prefere 4 gigs. You should be able to find an OEM copy of Home Pre. for around $110.

Just a thought. If you are thinking about connecting to a domain you will need the Business addition.

No, you can not do this legally. You'll have to pay the upgrade charges.

Should be able to run it if you have a very good config.
Download Vista Upgrade Advisor and see if your system can take it. Vista Upgrade Advisor is available at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=42b5ac83-c24f-4863-a389-3ffc194924f8&DisplayLang=en
It will recommed upgrades to your hardware if you need any.

No, you can't. (legally, anyway).

Besides, it would be best to just go back to XP.

Vista is THAT bad.
