According to Rx.com, an unfilled prescription is good for one year from the date the MD wrote the prescription. If the prescription is a controlled substance IE: Morphine then it's six months and there is also a special class of controlled substances that only allow for seven days to fill.

Normally you have one year to fill the prescription.

Usually 30 days or less. You can always drop it off at the pharmacy and they can call the doctor to verify that you still need the medicine.
