I hesitate to doubt others, but a black light is not like a regular flourescent bulb. There is a different gas inside the tube.
I've had a 48" for 20 years that I've strobed and shut off and turned on and still works.

Just from doing a quick search on the web, it seems that they last anywhere from 8 to 10 thousand hours. If you leave your black light on continuously, you could probably expect it to last 8 to 10 months at best. However, I also found that burning it continuously may expose you to unwanted ultraviolet rays that can be harmful. I have included two links that can help you make a more informed decision.

Hope this helps

They have the same life as a regular flourescent tube. The " gas " inside is the same. Actually Mercury vapor and low pressure inert gas , usually Argon..It is the coating on the glass which is different. In a flourescent light the ultrviolet light is converted to white light by the phosphor coating on the glass. In a black light the coating allows the ultraviolet to pass through.
