I know that humans are nothing but a lump of cells, organic matter, and DNA. Some even say that the only reason why we think and feel the way we do is due to evolution. Those are the cold hard scientific facts are our existence. What is, is what is.
Yet, I feel that humans are so much more and we are a result of something so much more. It is very easy to diminish a human being down to his/her scientific details. I can do that at my job. One glance at a patient's chart and that is all there is; a collection of lab reports, toxicology exams, psych, evaulations, objective progress reports, and so on. Yet a patient says "We are not treating them like a human". Well, you are your chart. Your chart doesn't care about your happiness or sadness. It just tells them the scientific facts about you. Nothing else is nessecary.
So why do people say that there is nothing but the scientific truth, but in acuality want people to see them as so much more? So what is the more for yo

Morality isn't going to get you better. A doctor is going to order 1ml of morality qh, for a patient. Besides their are medications and professional counseling to help deal with mental turmoil. It is very easy for the human race to be a soulless race.

One can minimize bedside manner as just a perception. It isn't the bedside manner that is healing the person but the science that is.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it is so true. We don't have time to hear about your community and your life. All that is imperative to your recovery is all contained in that chart. What your hobbies are not important. Being pleasant and listening to a patient is just manners, but they have nothing to do with recovery.

I never said that I didn't have bedside manner. To say that humans are just cells and DNA, why is bedside manner important? Feeling good is a trick of the brain. I am trying to figure why people want to be treated analytically, but don't want to at the same time.

Well I don't bug the doctors, because they are too busy. If I asked an IMC, ICU, SICU, or MICU nurse is a patient's social history is important to a patient's recovery they will say a little bit.

Very good question.
For me, as an atheist, I spent 20 years studying every kind of science I could gather. Biology, chemistry, physiology, botany, metallurgy, zoology, geology......... it goes on and on. I worked in the nuclear field for 10 years with a minor in chemistry and then did 2 years in pre-med. I did two years in architecture and then 3 years in electronics. I was trying to find out everything I could about my WORLD.
I went to church with a friend of mine (for support you see) many years ago and the Scripture verse was Romans 1:25: "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator....." and I broke down. That was me! I had spent all my life (to that point) trying to understand WHY everything was when, in reality, I was trying to find out WHO I was.
I no longer search out physical knowledge (even though I know a lot!) for the peace and tranquility of my life is my relationship with Jesus Christ.
I was lost, now I'm found. He has given me TREMENDOUS scientific knowledge and I now use that for His kingdom. I used to think that all those years were such a waste of time. He proved to me that it was not for I am His instrument and I was then and now - blessed beyond measure.

The sum is greater than the parts. People have hopes, fears, attachments and many more emotional facets.
As for nothing else beyon the chart being necessary that is complete crap. We all have emotional needs and when they are not met bad things happen to the brain and the body. Scientifc knowledge is necessary but not sufficient or even complete at this point. It will probably remain incomplete forever. A chart does not tell you anything about the persons life, their importance to their family, friends, co-workers, and community.
If you truly believe that you can do an adequate job of caring for someone simply from a medical chart you are a fool and a bad health professional.

The more for me is that humans were designed to live in four states of consciousness but we only use two of those states. Sleep and ordinary consciousness. Some people live introspective, psychological lives and manage to penetrate the third state of consciousness: Abraham Lincoln, Walt Whitman, Lewis Carroll, Hans Christian Andersen, Johann Goethe, Elizabeth the First, William Shakespeare... and they change the course of history. People who penetrate the fourth state, ARE the course of history: Jesus, Buddah, Plato...

You don't view the evolutionary processes that go all the way from star dust to a species capable of contemplating its own place in the cosmos as inspiring, awesome, wonderful? Shame on you.

You have confused scientific knowledge with care of the soul.
Two separate entities. Body is vessel. Soul is essence.
As humans we depend on science to care for our bodies but it is up to the individual to care for the soul.
The true puzzle is why does the one evolved species whose decisions affect the health of the planet (humans) ignore morality and conscientious behavior and kill and ruin everything instead?

Will all the scientist be standing there trying to figure out why the sun went black and why everything turned dark, While armageddon is going on will they have pencil, paper and equations, and when Jesus is lifting up those that know Him, will they still try to figure out a scientific reason. They can't come up with answers, because it is in the Bible, they build proposterous myths of fiction.

I for one believe that the guy who discovered dna was drunk or something. I mean, I know its there but you know when something shocks you or you find out "she" loves you back, you dont get that feeling in your brain, and you dont get it in your heart.
plus all scientists agree on one thing. life can only come from life. then what did the first life-ish thing come from. ooooooh
