If desolation has already set in with the person who wants to commit suicide and then you add the loneliness that the holiday can bring for some people and you have quite a cocktail for suicide. While others celebrate family, friends and foods there are many others who have nothing and nowhere to go. Why do those Salvation Army people stand outside the stores at Christmas? They are trying to help that large mass of potential suicides be more comfortable and also to find a refuge where they are protected. Please don't pass them by. Think of the life you might save or the person you might give hope to even if they are alone for the holiday.
I do not work for the Salvation Army but I feel that if I can spend money on holiday presents then I can give an equal amount to benefit someone I don't know. What can $25 buy for someone I don't know? A meal, some shoes, a little company. If we all cared a little more, we might be able to reduce that number of suicides. Not all as some are destined in way due to mental illness. Notice that homeless person, that shut in, that one person you know who will spend the holiday alone. Invite them to be with you. I have done this more times than I can count and it brings me great joy to see their joy. Many blessings

You can't switch off misery just because it's Christmas. People in a bad state of mind see everyone around them doing the family thing, and they feel more alone than ever. It's the worst time of year for them because they have their solitude rubbed in their faces by the forced happiness of the community. If we all paid more attention to those in need during the year, instead of just one or two days in the year when we're expected to, maybe not so many people would get to the point of suicide in the first place.

Because people become seriously depressed during the holidays. All the talk about buying presents and giving this and giving that and family gatherings etc etc...Some people have no money to give anyone anything or else they have no family to spend any time with.Others have realized another year has come and gone and they are no further ahead in their lives or in paying off debts. They don't have anyone special in their life to share it with. There's all kinds of reasons for people to become that unhappy during the so clled happy holidays.

The Xmas season is a time associated with families, emotional warmth and togetherness. But it is also a key risk period for suicides.
Those who have lost close connections and faced other hardships are very vulnerable at this time. Xmas highlights 'joy' when many are truly feeling isolated and 'broken' by life's hurts.

Well during the holidays the suicide rate soars because people feel depressed and have no one to turn to for help.
Most people who do this are seeking help and don't know where to go to get that help.
just so everyone knows I don't have any formal training in Mental illness but I do know about suicide.

Because alot of people become more depressed, because they are only focusing on their problems, and they look around and it appears to them, that everyone else so much, that everyone has what they don't, that everyone else is happy and they are not, what they don't see is
No one is perfect, and just because people show the outside, we never know what is going on inside.
They don't know Someone far greater has Love for them.
And Problems are temporary, and they don't have to carry the burden alone.
I had suicide in the family, but I know my father would of thought twice had he been able to see into the future, if we only look at the moment and only look at the problem, we will never see the big picture God has for us.

People remember happier times with loved ones that may be no more.
The pain of separation overcomes the joy meant by the season.
With no one to talk to... to relate to... a downward spiral occurs that sometimes is almost impossible to recover from....
Merry Christmas!

Because peoples sense of isolation & loneliness is much more acute at this time of year.
The true spirit of Christmas, & yes I'm not ashamed to use that word, is really only fulfilled when we try to do something unselfish for those who are not as blessed as we.

That's cuz in holidays people are crowded around some place and it makes a perfect opportunity for a wacko to show the kids some fireworks.

I think it's because people who have lost loved ones or have rocky relationships with their families, start thinking about their families right about then and it makes them depressed when they see other people who are in happy relationships.
