Why does "Merry Christmas" have to elicit sarcasm or insults no matter what your belief is? I'm a Christian, but if someone said to me, "Happy Hannukkah," or "Happy Ramadan," or "Happy Winter Solstace," I would smile and say it back to that person. Why not just be nice and avoid a confrontation when someone is merely being friendly? Sadly, some people now-a-days just look for ways to argue and be unpleasant.

I say Merry Christmas back also.
I have respect for Jesus, he was way beyond the mentality of the age his in. Christmas is the best holiday because of a great personality it's celebrated for. I certainly enjoy Christmas as a holiday but not for any religious reason.

I really don't care. U can say Happy Hanuka or Happy Saturnalia or whatever. Generally speaking it doesn't bother me, I still enjoy Christmas as a holiday and in any case I respect and admire Christ as a historical personality so I can take part in celebrating his memory.

I have no problem with any kind of religion as long as those practicing do not try to convert me.

Well, I am not technically an Atheist. However, I'd probably say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" right back, considering they were only trying to be nice and wish you a good holiday.

I ask them what they got me as a gift, srsly!

Actually I say merry Christmas back, I am not a Grinch.
I might wish them happy holidays or happy new year, it does not really matter much.

I say Merry Christmas back to them; likewise, if they say Happy Holidays I'll say that back. I have no issue using any holiday greeting.

Respond in Kinds. Just because they suffer from mass hysteria and commercial propaganda, there is no reason to be mean or nasty. Give them understanding and kindness and let them go on their way. It does engender peace and happiness and athiests can continue to live a life free of this fervor. If you make it known that you do not believe, you make yourself a target for the conservative fundamentalists who, like the other jihadists of the world, will do their utmost to convert you into accepting their form of mythology.

I love christmas.. all the presents and my boys love santa. they are 6,4, and 3 yrs old. so I say merry christmas back. It doesn't have to be all about jesus and his birthday and all. my parents never made it all about that. it is just a day to celebrate being alive and giving gifts to the ones you love. it is just fun. :)
