Which part of us is the "real person?" Everyone has several different personas off-line. For example, you would not behave in the same manner with your family as you would your pastor or priest. You would not speak to your boss like you do to your neighbor and football buddy.

The computer makes us more aware of these different personas only because we are alone at the computer.

Please don't be so concerned. Remember, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

A little fantasy never hurt anyone. Important is to keep it in bounds. I have a stressful professional life, writing appeals for asylum seekers and listening to accounts which are either totally unbelievable or worse, totally believable but not within the restrictions of international asylum requirements.
After a hard day, Yahoo Answers helps me to wind down.

It's been always like this, even before Internet came along. All of us have an external persona, which becomes more visible to us while working on Internet than in our dealings with outer world by other means and ways.I think it's quite normal and most of us get used to it sooner or later.

I'm the same on or off-line. I just get more opportunities to express my opinion on-line. I think what you're referring to is similar to alcohol, the socially accepted 'truth serum' - which dynamic is similar to the anonymity present when on-line.

Yes, I believe some are living double lives and I don't think this is a good thing.

Wow.....I must've misunderstood what this is all about. I didn't know you weren"t supposed to be yourself on here. I guess I'd better find me a "computer personality".
