That makes no sense with those colors. There should be a black a white and a bare or green. Black is hot, White is neutral, bare/green is ground. If you have two or more switches running this same light there may also be a red which should be common (Tells the other switch(s) the light is on). With what you say for colors, you need an electrician to test each wire and find out what is what. Good luck.

Sounds like there is a Switch wire from a wall switch.
Can't help with just colors.
If so, you will have to find the hot wire from the switch, and the incoming hot wire to the switch. These can be done different ways by a person. The hot wire to the switch could be from the ceiling and then back to the light.
