That's because you're heart is growing Mr. Grinch...LOL
I think as we get older it's inevitable we go to more funerals than weddings (sadly) but also, I guess our list of loved ones grows greater and greater. We also appreciate others more and tend to keep them in our thoughts too.
Plus I suppose if you become a grandma or grandpa (ouch, I know we're much to young for that, but it happens!) the list expands rather quickly.
This is where you have to start making rules for the adults. We had excluded them all which I never agreed with, but finally, at least, last year we resolved that all the adults would buy for one member (we have a large adult family!) so at least everyone gets a gift now.
As for funerals, they are sad, but at least they remind us how precious and SHORT life really is, so live each day to the fullest as nobody knows what tomorrow holds.
(((((Merry Christmas!!!!))))))
PS:
I think guilt can drive us to spend much more than we should. But you have to be both prudent and thoughtful in your gift giving.
During the year if it hits me that someone needs something I write it down, so I have an idea what to give for the holidays.
Plus I have gotten into making gift baskets. Your gift looks twice as beautiful for a few bucks more by putting it in a nice basket with some frills and Christmas knick knacks from the dollar store.
Stuff with tissue, tape together, add sprinkles and twinkles, and candy canes etc. and voila. Gorgeous, especially for the ladies but you can do some cool things with some pails and bottle of wine, etc. Get ideas from the basket companies.

Were the four people who passed on your Christmas list before? Did family members have babies this year or get married? Did you make new friends? There could be lots of reasons why your list is longer. My list got unwieldy and I decided to pare down to children only (and hubby, of course). That simplifies things tremendously.

You are a popular person, who cares about others. The answer to your problem is to stop caring about others, but I don't recommend it. The world needs more people like you.

That's the circle of life brother. The ones that die are replaced by new lives. Rinse, lather and repeat.
