Because the parents didn't pursue it and file charges. Yes, the parents have to make waves and go to the DAs office to press charges. There may be an "investigation", but as soon as the parent says "we don't any charges filed against him" the issue will be dropped, if it ever becomes an issue with the District Attorney. Plus, by keeping it out of the courts, this information does not become a matter of public record, and the guy does *not* go to jail or face other charges. It'll be public enough as it is, I imagine. Jamie Lyn's mom probably wouldn't want her daughter's baby daddy tossed in the slammer.

its usually only when a parent complains really that they do something... unless they feel its abnormally a drastic age difference.. in this case the mother would have to say something...i live in louisiana and kno plenty of 19 yr olds or 18 olds that got 16 yr olds pregnant.. the cops dont investigate pregnancies here at least.. now if the mother wanted to press charges hed be screwed....
they dont have cops investigating pregnancies and asking
"how old was the father?" ... they only really use that when a parent wants to complain about it...
thats your answer here in louisiana "you must complain before the law is valid apparently"
realli its not cuz its jamie spears..... i kno plenty of people that had a similar situation.. pregnancies at 16 in southern louisiana arent the rarest thing... we'd have some many guys in jail for that.....if they realli enforced it

Usually, when someone is charged with statutory rape it's because one of the parents pressed charges. Considering Mrs. Lynne Spears isn't exactly mother-of-the-year material anyway, I doubt she's going to.

From what I saw on the news, he was 18 and she was 16. In Louisianna, the age of consent is written so there is a 2 year differential between bunnies.

I don't think he should be in jail. It takes two people to have sex. She knew the consequences, so it's both their faults. The only reason I think he should be in jail is because he will probably leave her and she will have to deal with pregnancy all by herself.
