I think it is a great idea for the Red Sox to start the season in Japan. More than ever in its history MLB is an international game and Japan is a country that loves the game and they are represented well with all the stars they have provided to the game that we can all enjoy every day of the baseball season. You have to look beyond the teams that start the season in Japan and ask the question, "is it worth the effort to do this and is it good for the game" and I believe the answer is yes.

As a Red Sox fan, I am fine with it. Baseball has been expanding it's fan base all over the globe. The Japanese market is one of the most flourish fan bases baseball is receiving. No it's not a gimmick. The past 5 years two teams have had opening day in Japan. It's become tradition. Remember Japan won the inaugural WBC. And look at all the Japanese players that have now landed in America for opportunity to play baseball at the Major League level. My only concern, is that the game will probably be played at 4:00am or 5:00am, etc. American time (depending on where you live). I think overall, it's good for the game though.

I am a Sox fan and i dont really like it. The Red Sox play the A's on the 25 and 26 in Japan.(regular season game) Then they go to LA to play the Dodgers in a preseason series on the 28,29, and 30. Then they go to Oakland to finish their four game series with the A's on April 1 and 2. That is just a stupid setup to start the year.
And besides Dice-K might not even pitch because his wofe is due with a baby on March 25.

I hope that we get some fans of both teams on here soon, but they have plenty of chances to see thier team in thier town play baseball in the 2008 baseball season. And since the game will most likely will be early in the United States, fans of both teams can tape the game, and watch it when they want to.

I'm a SOX fan and I don't like it. Not because it's commercialized or anything like that but because when this has happened in the past it has had a detrimental effect on the teams involved. This will shorten their spring training and screw up their routines in general. It's bad for the players health too. I'm against it but I'll be watching it anyway so...

I'm a fan of neither team, but I think it's ridiculous. America's pastime is getting too commercialized and are selling themselves out.
Alternate Jersey's, Spider-Man logos on bases, and now touring. What's next?

Why the A's and Boston?
Why not NYY and Boston.
Then, loyal fans would go over and see just how passionate we are about baseball.
