Try to track down its owner.
Try to check down its phone book contact list search out for the contact either by home or mom or dad or i think u get it what i mean to say.. to try to contact on the number and tell they that u have got the mobile and plz end someone to take it back from me.
Or u can do one thing more u can just call that person and hand over the mobile in front of police so that that guy may not misuse your honesty..

I usually wait till someone calls it and hopefully its the owner

If not, I search the phonebook for an entry like "Home" or "Mom" or "Dad" or any family member for that matter and give them a call.

Every phone I found has been returned the same day except one sprint phone I found that was smashed into 3 pieces on the side of the road. I called Sprint and told them about it they just asked me to throw it away.

It might be tempting to you to keep it but it is more rewarding returning it to owner. As I recently found out when I found a RAZR owner had a sticker with contact info on battery cover offering a reward. Simply stated if found please call so and so dollar amount. I called the number we met up and the rest his history. Regardless of reward it was the right thing to do. Think about how devastated you would be if you were in there shoes.Karma I believe in it.

Phone someone iin the memory and the name should come up and tell them you have the persons phone and return it. It might be a really pretty girls phone and she will ask you out to thank you. You later get married but she divorces you after a couple of years and gets your house. Oh - just take it to a police station. Its cheaper.

call the numbers in the phone look in the my info part if it shows their info call it . ask them to describe the phone and some numbers/names in it as proof and set up meeting spot to return it. I did once and when we returned it the lady wanted to give us a reward like 20/30 dollars but we said no that I hoped that if I had lost my phone someone too would be so kind as to return it .

Call the cops and hand it in to them . If the person has the sim card in it , you should try and find contacts like : mum, dad , granny , granpa .etc . And say that " we have found a phone and are calling from it , has anyone you know in your family lost a phone. Just say something like that before you hand it in to the cops.

Personally, I would look into the address book of the phone and see if I can find a home number or family, etc. If I could not find any familly or friends, etc, I would most probably keep the phone.

Call up the owner and return it to him. Assuming you can easily find the owners number from the directory. Else call one of his/her other contacts and try to trace the owner that way. Important the mobile is returned. its worth to the owner than to you.
