Do you have blue loo??
I would dip some down the sink!! Takes the smell away pretty quick.
The best thing is Draino. It isn't real expensive either. I use it on my drains and with a septic tank I usually have to be really careful of what goes down. I haven't had a problem yet.
Or you could turn the water off and put a large bucket under the sink. Then undo it and clean it out, incase something is blocked??

Have fun shopping tomorrow!! I went today and it was PACKED out!! I was in line for nearly a bloody hour!!!
Never again!

The first thing I would do is check the trap under the sink ( it is "U" shaped) this can be removed and cleaned due to sludge build up.If you do not have one there is your problem. The trap also serves as an odor blocker. It holds water in the U-shaped fitting to prevent annoying odors from coming into your home from the main drain lines including sewer. It is very simple to remove and clean or with a little measuring install one that has quick connects with compression nuts on it.Any Hardware store will have it.Good Luck!

there is crap in your trap!!!
i mean the trap is full of crap

you need to clean the crap out of the trap
the bits and pieces of food get settled in the trap and lodge there so when theres no water being ran it smells just like it is a trap full rotten food and such.... un do the trap and clean it out (its the pipe your drain is hooked to that dose a loop t loo under sink) after its cleaned out you can put grated orange peels or lemon peel grated in cheese grater helps with smell

I used to have that problem and what i would do is funnel baking soda down the drain then follow with vinegar. i would wait for about 10 mins and then pour boiling water after. I hope it helps.

pour a cup of household bleach down the sink and leave it for an hour or so then it will be clean as the bleach/chlorine will kill the germs in there

You probably got a dead rat stuck in the pipes...ewwwww

Get some draino or a hot plumber to fix the problem!

they have products that have enzymes in them and they will eat the grease and organic matter that is stuck in your drain.. you can usually find them at a hardware store..after you use that a little lemon or baking soda should make it smell fresh and clean......

Well, Draino works for me! Sometimes our sinks get clogged up.....Maybe you should try some baking soda.....I haven't , but I have always heard it is good......and vinegar too....Cuts the grease!
BTW, another Australian contact........How Cool Is That!!!!!!
