The earth takes 365 days and 6 hours to orbit the sun. This means that each year, the moment at which a new season begins(the moment the sun is at its highest point) is six hours later than in the previous year. After four years, the seasons are 24 hours behind, and this is corrected by adding an extra day ,February 29,every fourth year.

a year is actually 365.25 days so we just use 365, adding an extra day every 4 years

theres no way the october story can be true. the earth has a variety of climates so october is still summer in some places and winter already in other places

It takes 365 1/4 days for the earth to revolve around the sun. If we didn't have leap year, all those 1/4 days would start to add up and eventually we would have winter in July.

To avoid that, every 4 years they add an extra day.

The Earth's rotation around the sun does not occur in exactly 365 days so every 4 years the extra day is added to keep the days lined up with our orbit rate.
