I wanna buy some beauty creams from the Duty Free (traveling from Houston to Europe).
I know they have a 311 rule or so now,
does this also apply to for example beauty creams and etc.?

I would hate to buy a $100 cream and have to trash it right away....

Yeah...duty free is a racket. The prices are jacked up ...but oh, No, it's not taxed. Airports are notorious for temping you to power shop...but it's no bargain.

The security rules apply to any type of creams and gels. If you've already checked your luggage then anything you buy at duty free has to come on board with you. Sometimes there is an additional security control before boarding and sometimes not. To be sure, call your airline and ask what their policy is at the Houston airport. But also for your info, when I last flew in November 2007, I saw a perfume I wanted at duty free in France but I didn't get it because I didn't want to deal with any liquids hassle-- and then I saw the same thing at the "Ross - dress for less-" store at a mall, and it was actually about $15 cheaper!

If you buy the cream at the airport in Europe, it has to be just before boarding a plane as incoming passengers are not allowed to shop duty free.
I know that at the airport of Amsterdam they sell amounts that are allowed on board, and packed in such way you are allowed to bring them.
But that is only for the first flight you will be on. If you have to change planes your liquids have to apply to all rules again.

So if it is your last flight, ask at the airport, but mostly they will just sell what you can take aboard.
If you have to change planes, do not buy, unless the packaging does confirm to all rules (unlikely for a $100 amount.)

And indeed, check the price in town, as I am not convinced that shopping at the airport is always cheaper. (I have seen many items more expensive in the airport.)

your airline will tell you what they allow or refuse as hand luggage. If your travelling, it is best to put any items like scizzors, nail clippers, liquids in your suitcase and check it through. You go through security and clearance then you can shop duty free on the otherside of the barrier. Will you want to buy $100 creams if your not finished with them on holiday you have the same problem on your way back.
