The one that immediately came to mind B was a baby doll dressed in pale green dress and a hat to match! I can still remember how I felt when I unwrapped that present! xx

The best gift would be my Smurf Village playset. The figurines had a tiny record under its base so when you propped it on the bandstand(that had a tiny record player on it) they would talk. My parents weren't around much when I was little and I was raised by my grandmother along with many cousins so I never had toys. This was my first real toy.

I think for me it was this cool doll that cried and laughed. I was dying to get it because in the ad they made it look like it was a real baby. But there was no way Mum could ever have afforded it.

So on my 8th or 9th birthday I got all my presents and went outside to play with them. But my Mum called me in as if I was in trouble and started to lecture me, after 5 mins with no reaction from me (I had no idea what was going on) my Mum asked me to look around the room and see what was different. I looked didnt see anything. So she had to point out this big wrapped box. I opened it and there was the doll!!!! I cried cause I was sooooooo happy, just knowing that Mum really really went out of her way to be able to get it for me and that I actually had it. Anyway we turned it on and the first thing it did was cry which made me cry because I thought it didnt like me!!! I know I was a weird child.

But yeah I think that was far and away the best gift ever. For three reasons
a) because of the sneaky way Mum tried to give it to me (ie pretending I was in trouble)
b) because I so desperately wanted it
c) because there was no way Mum could afford it but she still got it for me because she knew how much I wanted it.

a Dansette record player . You could load 10 or 12 of either 78s , 45s or 33 1/3s on it and they were usually red. I also had a hair-dryer -my own- that I didn't have to share

its weird the only thing i remeber getting for xmas that i would say was the best present was this little green crayon chest with crayons in it, it doesnt sound like much but its what i really really really wanted and its the only memory that really jumps out at me. though for year and years i always wanted a cabbage patch doll and never got one, i dont know why and then once when i was about 10 they brought out a new bath time cabbage patch doll that i REALLY wanted but when i asked my mum she told me no as i was too old for dolls :( i was gutted. and now im 20and ive still never had a cabbage patch doll lol.

i think it would have to be a watch. It was a Timex blue watch which came with a figurine of Cinderella.

i felt really grown up with it.

I think I was about 9 in the early 70's

My favorite was a little blue budgie with a yellow face. I named him Andrew, and he was the best pet I ever had. I loved how he would talk and would sit on my shoulder while I did my homework.

I got a Spectrum Sinclair when I was about 9, (remember them Sparkles??? LMFAO) I loved it, even though it did take about 3hrs for the games to load! PMSL

depends on the age, when i was older it was video game stuff and when i was younger it was things i really wanted like a "my dear diary" or a bike or a guinea pig. I think it really depends on the child.
