3 days and that is pushing it. Some studies have shown 5 days but the sperm are not that good and barely alive.
In reality, the most viable and active sperm that will really make it to the egg are good for 48 hours, 72 max--anything over that is not good quality sperm anymore.

The average male orgasm releases about a teaspoonful of seminal fluid which contains thousands and thousands of sperm in the lubricant. Inside the body, where it is kept moist and at blood-heat, semen can stay active for 24 hours or more. Outside the body it's unlikely to survive very long at all. The chances of getting pregnant from sitting on a damp spot on the sheet are infinitesimal.
Only one sperm is needed to fertilise the single egg a woman usually releases from her ovaries into her womb each month, usually in the middle of her cycle, that is, half-way between periods. The rest of the seminal fluid falls out because it's not needed. Some women think that if they stand up to have sex, gravity will prevent conception but that's not true as the sperm have tiny tails to swim along with. Some women think that lying flat, or with their hips raised, after lovemaking will increase the chances of conception and that's just possible.
I hope this will help set your mind at rest. Good luck.

4 days maximum. However, for the purposes of conception you can only consider that it is active for 48 hours.

Sperm will stay alive 3 days within the vagina, which is actually a harsh place for sperm to try to survive in.
