USA used encouraged strengthened religiosity all over the world in order to fight against communism including USA.
i just want to know if the above statement is a fact?
IE;
in the middle east with the help of Saudi Arabia they strengthened ie; the Taliban in Afghanistan.
in Iran they no longer could prolong their support of Reza Shah so they helped the Hezbollah of Iran to take over the power by supporting Saddam Hussein since Iran couldn't afford a civil war while being invaded! Hezbollah slowly and surely killed off all the opposition groups.
the list goes on. since religion was a great tool to fight communism then necessaily USA has invested a lot to increase religiosity here at home!

Very Interesting Question: Surprisingly, Islam is considered pro Capitalism and anti Communism , that was the idea for many years ? and now, Islam is portrayed as a monster to scare the kids? and damn it's working, as many people actually think that Muslims want take over the world, and make all people Muslims ? Can you dig how stupid is that idea ?

Best Regards.

Of course they did, have done, and are doing it!

Games of state are dirty little things, It may look from the outside that everything is done by the Queensbury Rules, but biting and scratching are order of the day.
We are told that everything is done for a good cause, The first World War Story which is taught in English school is a good example of this. The major part of people, when asked about the reason will give the story of Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria-Este. In fact even Wikipedia states the same thing. and goes on to talk about complicated power struggle issues.
Come on folks, To do really think he was such a great guy that the world would go to war over him!
The true reason was Oil, please visit my 360 for more info.
The reason for war are simply strategic and economic, The belief that we are doing things to bring democract to the mild east for example requires the naiveties of 1970's porno movies!
'Ge Mr, So your telling me that the Time machine only works if I take all my clothes off!"

Reading into events and not just taking the new which has been propagated will make this all that much more clear.

I recommend 'for those in doubt' The Grand Chessboard by Zbigniew Brzezinski (ex US National Security Advisor)
An a few of the books of Noam chomsky (Hegemony or Survival is a good start) Then think about how you would play the game to win.

We must also remember that Osama and his Taliban were trained, funded and armed by the CIA!

Just take the time to look in things folks and the truth will jump out at you.

Actually this is all very true. In the 1970s the CIA provided Osama Bin Laden with training to fend off the communists. They helped get Saddam into power to secure Iraq. The US is having a hard time catching the Taliban now because of this. The Tabilan were taught US military tactics so they know how to circumvent the military in every way. Also it doesn't help that some of the weapons cache they still use contain US supplied goods.

It's sad most people over look this fact. They curse Saddam and Osama out but 20 years ago they were some of our best allies in the front of the battle against the communists.

I think you're right. We have used religion to fight secular battles, just as has been done for millennia.

Thomas Jefferson wanted a 'wall of separation between church and state' not because he was afraid of government being corrupted by religion but of religion being corrupted by politics. And as that wall is crumbling today this is exactly what's happening! Christianity serves capitalism and imperialism, not the other way around

The Titans of Industry in the US, the wealthy and the heads of corporations, were scared to death of the threat of world communism. Several western countries (including the US) actually sent troops to fight in the Russian Revolution on the side of the Tsar because they feared if communism got a toe-hold it would sweep through the world, especially the poor countries that they exploited for cheap resources and labor.

They got religious leaders to lead a religious fight against Communism for that reason. In this battle, as in so many, religion has served secular power, not vice versa. Christians in the US have also supported US imperialism since WWII, mischaracterizing any popular revolution we didn't like as Communist-inspired, and any national leader we didn't like as Communist-supported, as a justification to intervene and impose our will.

It's true that in Afghanistan the US strengthened the Mujahadeen to fight against Soviet domination. But in both Iran and Iraq we backed secular despots against Islamic opposition (both the Shah and the Ba'athists).

To some extent yes. Islam was politicized and was used as a conflict factor. Islam became a political ideology and was further radicalized. It was an effective weapon against communism, which was defeated and humiliated in Afghanistan. Political Islam emerged first in Egypt, where writers such as Hasan Bana and Sayed Qutb were active. They have a large ideological impact on Muslim radicals in the entire Muslim world.

Then Andre200 has got a point. U.S. had nothing to do with the creation of the Taleban movement, which was primarily a product of Pakistani generals' long strategic planning for Afghanistan. The Paki generals wanted to create a "strategic depth" in Afghanistan against India. Taleban was the means for Pakistan to achieve that. Taleban were trained in Pakistani madrassas, which were run by Saudi-Wahabi money, during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

The pity of it is that we have backed the wealthy tyrants in power when we should have given support to the poverty-stricken citizens. We also would support these tyrants until they were no longer useful to us, then would drop them and complain that they were dictators, etc. Our foreign policy has always been dictated by our interests at the time. Saddam is a sad example of this.

Religion, throughout history, has not only been used in War, but has caused wars. It is amazing to me that Hitler, on his march toward world power, used the Christian religion as his explanation of his hatred of Jews, his marching armies. He fought, he said, "in the name of the Lord."

If that phrase sounds familiar, it is used as an excuse for the invasion of Iraq, when Afghanistan was a stone's throw away from victory. Now we are at Square One in Afghanistan, yet many of the Christian supporters of Bush want to move into Iran.

During WW!!, we always said that "God was on our side." We had songs like "Coming in On a Wing and a Prayer." Religion was a big part of our victory, and religion used correctly can be an inspiration, a support. But when religion is used as a political tool and a threat of nuclear annihilation, it is a dangerous reality. I would not seek a repeat of WW!!.

One cannot cover up a quest for Oil or a grab for Biblical territory, with the millions of deaths and damage involved, with religious faith. It boils down to greed and fanaticism, no matter what lofty words one chooses to describe it.

It's true we helped the Afghans fight off the Soviets in the early 80's but the tali ban came to power in the early 90's well after our support. As for Iran as far we wanted the Shah to stay in power, so that's all conspiracy theory there.

yes and you have some very good answers, so this is for some of the people who find it hard to believe.

They have made a movie from a true story called Charlie Wilson's war. It will be out this Christmas.

For those of you who do not like to read here is a link about the movie with real interviews from some of the people who were actually involved.
http://www.charliewilsonswar.net/cww-realcharlievid.html

Here is a link to the movie site http://www.charliewilsonswar.net/site.html

This covers part of what you are talking about.

Important fact!! If you notice what we call terrorist today, they were calling them freedom fighters who were fighting against tyranny back in the 80s.

Although I have no proof of such, simple, pure deduction would lead one to conclude your statement to be right. The Imperial Power ...du jour will use any means to prolong its domination and exploit resources. The Brits did it so why not the US? It's the unintended consequences that unwise powers have to deal with. Had they been wise they would have followed a different policy.
Imagine if you will, that we'd spend 500.000.000.000 $ in alleviating disease, creating jobs and promoting justice instead of killing folks. Utopian perhaps. But do let me dream that wisdom can not be too far away.

Have you ever heard the theory that a thousand monkeys banging on a thousand typewriters could, in a million years, possibly (by randomm accident) produce the complete works or Shakesspear?

I THINK your desertation is the modern day embodiement of that theory only you have "cut and pasted" a bunch of nonsense together to make what you present here for confirmation. You need to cut and past for another 100,000 years and see what comes of it.
